Like most people, I enjoy a good joke. But Donald Trump for president? With apologies to Karl Rove, it's not really that funny.
The Trump candidacy is not a joke; it's a scam. But its success with millions of voters shows us we are a nation very susceptible to scams if they are done on a grand enough scale......
In Donald Trump we have a liberal billionaire with a long record of supporting Democratic candidates who is willing to spend unlimited amounts of money to reinvent himself as a populist conservative. Ordinarily, that would be an impossible, even laughable undertaking. Yet Trump is doing well in the polls. Evidently, a lot of people are buying his snake oil.
A cynic might suggest the fact that Trump has filed for bankruptcy three times and then rebuilt a real-estate empire has some attraction for citizens of a country with mounting trillions in public debt. However, we have yet to hear Trump ask Social Security retirees to take 30 cents on the dollar in promised benefits. He has recently attacked Rep. Paul Ryan's proposed Medicare reform, saying Republicans should avoid that issue.
There are at least three big obstacles to a Trump nomination in Tampa in August of 2012. The first two obstacles are Trump's record and Trump's ego. Trump doesn't have the self-discipline to "stay on message," often reverting to the leftist ideas he has absorbed from the New York Times and Manhattan cocktail parties. He recently admonished Republicans to "rethink" opposition to a single-payer health-care system "like the one that works so well for Canadians."
On policy matters, Trump's record makes him about as credible as a conservative candidate as I would be running for the presidency of the Council of American-Islamic Relations.

Tanc is right, Trump’s popularity is due to his fearlessness on the birth certificate, and because Repubs are desperate for leadership that will stand up.
He is also right in the rest of his analysis of Trump. Trump should not be president. But I’m losing patience with the rest of the Repub field, who walk on eggshells for fear of offending the media.
Repubs are desperate and when they are desperate enough they’ll find that guys like Tancredo are the answer. And Palin, and Bachmann, and DeMint. You want people who aren’t afraid to speak up, draw the line in the sand, and take the fight to the enemy. That actually includes Trump, who is doing good work taking it to Obama even if he is not particularly conservative on other issues that also matter. Trump is a welcome addition to the fold, even if he isn’t necessarily the right guy to lead the fold. Problem is, there aren’t many out there who are. There is a real vacuum and only a few good people to fill it.
Tom Tancredo should have stayed in the House of Reps. and continued his good fight against illegal immigration and other elitist shenanigans. Most things he’s said or done since seem quirky and of no help to conservative causes.
Trump’s a catalyst for many political conversations others are totally afraid to touch and that improves the political debate as the presidential primary season approaches.
Unless someone like Trump can expose Barry for the fraud he is, here is the reality.
Obamas reelection is really a very, very simple math problem. Consider the following:
1) Blacks will vote for Obama blindly. Period. Doesnt matter what he does. Its a race thing. Hes one of us,
2) College educated women will vote for Obama. Though they will be offended by this, they swoon at his oratory. Its really not more complex than that,
3) Liberals will vote for Obama. He is their great hope,
4) Democrats will vote for Obama. He is the leader of their party and his coattails will carry them to victory nationwide,
5) Hispanics will vote for Obama. He is the path to citizenship for those who are illegal and Hispanic leaders recognize the political clout they carry in the Democratic Party,
6) Union members will vote overwhelmingly for Obama. He is their key to money and power in business, state and local politics,
7) Big Business will support Obama. They already have. He has almost $1 Billion dollars in his reelection purse gained largely from his connections with Big Business and is gaining more everyday. Big Business loves Obama because he gives them access to taxpayer money so long as they support his social and political agenda,
8) The media love him. They may attack the people who work for him, but they love him. After all, to not love him would be racist,
9) Most other minorities and special interest groups will vote for him. Oddly, the overwhelming majority of Jews and Muslims will support him because they wont vote Republican. American Indians will support him. Obviously homosexuals tend to vote Democratic. And lastly,
10) The overwhelming majority of college students will vote for Obama.
11) Approximately half of independents will vote for Obama. And he doesnt need anywhere near that number because he has all of the groups previously mentioned. The President will win an overwhelming victory in 2012.

I am not a Tancredo fan, but I think he is spot on here.
I wish we could attack the enemy this way.
Trump is a charlatan, plain and simple. He got rich bamboozeling people and putting them over a barrel.
I wish we could be as critical of the business as usual crowd in DC and around the world
Don’t worry, Trump will be a big help to us and then fizzle out. Take advantage of it while you can......
I think you are wrong.
The people Obama claims he champions are the people getting beat up the worst.
Someone just needs to point it out.
Tom couldn’t even beat ChickenPooper for Governor of Colorado, a liberal Democrat candidate even the liberals HATED. Tom’s message about the border was and is right on, but he hasn’t shown himself to be a viable candidate outside of Douglas County Colorado.
My old friend Tommy T. has fallen so low. But he's right about TheDonald.
Trump surely has a lot of baggage that will undoubtedly come to light before the Republican election. I may not agree with all he stands for but if he gets the nod we’ll all have to examine ourselves and make the decision. How many of us held our noses in 08 and voted for a man we despise? I’ll tell you this, I’d rather vote for Trump or someone like him than ever vote for someone like McCain again.
Instead of running Trump down I suggest we all take a wait and see attitude. Save your disdain for the Democrats and perhaps a little for Tancredo as well. You’ve got to love an article written by a man who by running as an independent against his own (Republican) party ensured the state of Colorado a Democratic Governor. There is no bounds to the hypocritical rhetoric of politicians.
I hope so.
That would be the best scenario.
What is Tom’s position on the BC issue. If it invloves Tommy on his knees then he needs to STFU and go home and let the adults handle this.
That is worse than supporting Obama...
I left the Republican party when McCain was nominated.
Fear not. The average American political moron is eating this up and the full advantage our effort gets from it will be good. I am positive of that. This forum is quite exclusive among Conservatives. We can speak as freely as we like here and it won’t harm Trump much on a National level.
Trump is a Populist retard. It’s just that simple.
This from a guy who split the vote in his own state last election, although I do wish he would’ve been voted in.
