Like most people, I enjoy a good joke. But Donald Trump for president? With apologies to Karl Rove, it's not really that funny.
The Trump candidacy is not a joke; it's a scam. But its success with millions of voters shows us we are a nation very susceptible to scams if they are done on a grand enough scale......
In Donald Trump we have a liberal billionaire with a long record of supporting Democratic candidates who is willing to spend unlimited amounts of money to reinvent himself as a populist conservative. Ordinarily, that would be an impossible, even laughable undertaking. Yet Trump is doing well in the polls. Evidently, a lot of people are buying his snake oil.
A cynic might suggest the fact that Trump has filed for bankruptcy three times and then rebuilt a real-estate empire has some attraction for citizens of a country with mounting trillions in public debt. However, we have yet to hear Trump ask Social Security retirees to take 30 cents on the dollar in promised benefits. He has recently attacked Rep. Paul Ryan's proposed Medicare reform, saying Republicans should avoid that issue.
There are at least three big obstacles to a Trump nomination in Tampa in August of 2012. The first two obstacles are Trump's record and Trump's ego. Trump doesn't have the self-discipline to "stay on message," often reverting to the leftist ideas he has absorbed from the New York Times and Manhattan cocktail parties. He recently admonished Republicans to "rethink" opposition to a single-payer health-care system "like the one that works so well for Canadians."
On policy matters, Trump's record makes him about as credible as a conservative candidate as I would be running for the presidency of the Council of American-Islamic Relations.

I agree.
The notion that we need a megastar to beat Obama is laughable.
I think the county dog catcher could beat this mutt.
If he actually presents some type a damning evidence against Obama it will be a game changer.
So did I to my shame.
I still dont trust a snake oil sales man like Trump
Tom Tancredo is right on most issues, but he is the last person to be giving winning political advice, considering his own failures.
I AGREE this country will fall for a scam. 2008 presidential election comes to mind.
Tancredo is a lone wolf.
I dont agree with him an the border. If I was President I would be leaning on the Mexican government hard.
I would not be placing troops on our borders and disrupting the land rights of our citizens.
I would take the game to the source. I would humiliate the corrupt mexican Government.
That said, I am with Tancredo on Trump.
He needs to beat up Calderon the same way
There is no way that any of the current Replican candidates leading in the polls can beat Obama in 2012. The Democrats are salivating for Romney to be the man. The only ticket I can see with a chance is Christie/Rubio. What I like about Trump is he will be the only one with the gonads to challenge the media and Obama’s credentials and not just the birth certificate issue. I am really upset with the wimpy Republicans. They blew it in 2008 in vetting Obama and we are looking a repeat performance. I’m more interested in Obama’s school grades, medical records, passport records, social security number, draft registration, etc. Trump should hammer away at disclosure of this information. If we knew Bush had better grades than Kerry at Yale, we should have access to all Barry’s grades even SAT’s.
What a bad lot of eggs! LoL
BS!
Obama is doing a good job of beating himself!
A whole new industry has emerged ......... political TRUMPTOONS......
Why chase red herrings? Why not focus on his job performance which has been miserable?
The thrust needs to come off the BC (long or short) and focus on NBC (parents). If Barry’s baby-daddy was BHO1, he was NOT an American citizen. If BHO1 was NOT the baby-daddy then maybe the long form would show who WAS the baby-daddy and that man MAY have been an American citizen. Either way, the baby-momma could NOT confer NBC. So let the debate go to court! It was never challenged in court, but that doesn’t mean that the concept (and all the debate and background when it was written) is invalid. The SCOTUS seems timid to throw the country into another Gore/Bush/Florida-type of schism. I say, so be it!
“The Divine One,” Donald Trump, Romney, Huckabee, Gingrich, Palin, Bachman, etc. etc. are all symptoms of the political bankruptcy of the American people. We have run out of competent politicians. Our luck has run out.
Well I am not for Trump, but I like the fact he is asking questions. But I also am not for Tancredo in any capacity. he tanked a gove race in Colorado. Which had he won would have put him to better use than playing Rodeo Clown.
Another two party "business as usual" doofus.
I thought we were getting rid of those.
The timidity of these clown in attacking the overwhelming debt that is destroying the country says it all.
The kiss of death politically, for me, is the establishment politician lecturing relatively unknowns who are determined to make necessary change; not simply talk about it.
