What got the USA into WW1? ZOT needed.

Posted on 04/23/2011 8:53:56 PM PDT by freepguy

I'm trying to get the facts that show why the USA got into WW1. As I can tell, Wilson was president. The US was neutral...did not want to get involved. Britian and the Allied Powers were losing the war against the Central Powers. The Balfour Declaration promised a Jewish state in Palestine. The Lusitana was armed and ordered to attack German U-boats. Propaganda was created to convince American populace that Germany needed to be conqered.

Can anyone help me get more info on the subject?

Thanks. FG

Germany would not have needed to attack the Soviet Union directly. They could simply have supported the White Army during the civil war. It is inconceivable that the German monarchy or the German military would have tolerated the Bolsheviks. Poland would not have existed, but the Austro-Hungarian Empire would have survived, and they would have been actively hostile to Bolshevism as well.

I know of no evidence that the German High Command fostered or supported the NAZI's. Thy knew of and monitored the NSDAP, as they monitored all political parties. Hitler, an itinerant corporal, was recruited to attend meetings and write reports. When his reports suddenly stopped they assumed he had been discovered and killed. No one was more surprised than the military when Hitler reemerged as a party leader. Besides, even if the German Army had played a role in the rise of the NAZI party, there is no reason to think they would have done so if Germany had not lost the war.

uh...Pearl Harbor was WW2

Yes, I know that. How many times am I supposed to beat myself up over it?

It was Santa Ana attacking the Alamo that really got things started.

Uh, what was was that, the Spanish American? We got him finally, didn't we?

Pearl Harbor? How did a time machine get into this thread?

I put it in there when no one was looking. I just dragged it from my dock into the thread so I could back it up.

The Lusitania was carrying war materiel, but it certainly had no capability to take offensive action against submarines.

International law prior to the war required submarines to surface and offer unarmed ships the opportunity to surrender rather than just sinking them without warning. Churchill publicly ordered all British ships to ram any German submarine on the surface demanding surrender.

“but the Austro-Hungarian Empire would have survived”

Probably not...

Ethnic nationalism was plaguing the Empire badly in the years leading up to WW1, and it was already “Balkanizing” when the War began, sped up by incompetent management from the top. The Empire had been in decline ever since it’s defeat by the Prussians in 1866.

As one researcher puts it, “they were living on borrowed, time, if not borrowed decades already. It was a prison of various nationalities looking for escape.”

Right, but submarine warfare brought an end to those rules as subs were considered highly vulnerable if they surfaced.

One story, which may or may not be true contends that the Quartermaster of the U-20, when given the order to fire by the CO, refused to do so, citing the presence of women and children aboard the Lusitania. He was court-martialed and spent three years in a military prison.

We held ourselves in reserve until the Germans started threatening NY. Then we moved in to stop them.

Did the Zionist movement in america have anything to with it?
I’m just trying to get different opinions.

Ah.
A muslim or a muslim sympathizer.

That changes everything.
I suggest From Time Immemorial, by Joan Peters, for a grasp of what was happening in the Middle East at the time and the continuing between wars by all muslim countries expelling all their Jewish populations.
Jews in America were not historically a factor in the US entry int WW1.

Islam, on the other hand, did not choose wisely. The Ottoman Empire was, for practical purposes, islam, and Zionism might enter the equation after the war, but to try to link Zionism with promoting America's entry into WW1 is a stretch so ignorant that only a muslim would suggest it.

Santa and Ana (the Clawsbys) and the Pinto Beano were the ships that brought Columbus to Ohio. The Alamo car rental came later.

It's true. Columbus landed on the shores of the Scioto River. He left his boat here, too:

Restricted submarine [U-Boat] warfare. At the time of WWI, subs were required to give merchant ships [even armed ones] warning and a chance to abandon ship - per international accords.

Germany implemented unrestricted submarine warfare in 1915 [no warning sinkings] and was presured by the threat of war with the US into discontinuing it. The Lusitania was sunk during 1915 and was an armed merchant cruiser and was also carrying arms and ammo as well as passengers including 200+ US citizens.

The German complaints that the US was selling arms to the UK in violation of the neutrality act were ignored. The official policy was to sell to all sides but, they had to pick the weapons up in the US. The RN blockade ment that in practice only the allies could buy from the US.

After the 1915 incidents the UK intercepted a German proposal to Mexico to enter the war on the German side if the US entered the war on the Allied side. Promised to get the Mexican territories lost in the Mexican-American War back. The UK promptly gave a copy of the intercept to the USG and the press to further poisen US-German relations.

In 1917 Germany resumed unrestricted submarine warfare. Wilson asked for and got a declaration of war shortly after on the basis of “Freedom of the seas”.

Ironically, one of the first orders to the US Submarine Force Pacific in WWII [24 years later] was to implement “Unrestricted Submarine Warfare” against Japan.

Yes. The Germans gave Lenin his ride into Russia to start revolution and take Russia out of WWI in 1917.

But the USSR would not have included Ukraine and Belorus. Those areas [and more] were ceeded to the Germans in the Peace Treaty of Brest-Litovic signed by Lenin. The western allies turned those territories and the areas of the broken-up Astro-Hungarian Empire into seperate countries after the Armistice and the USSR took the Ukraine and Belorus back in the 20s. Tried to get Poland too but lost that fight.

Did not regain the Baltic countries/Moldovia until 1940/1945 and tried to regain Finland but stalemated that fight.

The Zionest movement at that time was based in the UK.
The 1917 Balfore Declaration was an attempt to start a Jewish rebelion in Palistine. At the same time Lawrence was busy doing the same with the Arab tribes. The UK Egyptian Front lines against the Ottoman Empire were stalemated at that time. So was the Mesopotainian front {Iraq].

Actually, the USSR would have still existed - just in a weaker form and with a stronger German counter-balance. The Treaty of Brest-Litovic was between the USSR and Germany...

“All Quiet on the Western Front” is a mis-translation. The actuall words translate to “nothing new on the western front”. I.E. Still stalemate.
