The Donald speaks in hyperbole and is trying to be a Republican populist, but he’s only supported liberal Democrats and liberal Republicans (closet Democrats like Crist, Specter and Kirk) over the years.
Polls show two-thirds of Americans want to put the military on the Mexican border, and Trump is simply playing to that. Milquetoast TPaw has probably been the strongest on illegal immigration of any of the candidates, and I don’t think he’s a winner against Obama, so we’ve clearly an issue there. But trying to fashion Trump as some sort of conservative or non-pro-amnesty hero is falling into his trap perfectly.
Still the voice of reason and common sense, months later.

Trump may not be your brand of conservative. Drenched in cynicism, you think you have his number (same as a thousand other freepers) but you don’t. But you may get your wish and he won’t even run. Then you’ll get your T-Paw soon enough and he can go down in flames vs Obama

Trump would be torn to shreds by the time the Dems were done with him—even though he’s a Dem himself.
However, if he manages to position himself as a Republican-gone-Perot, they’ll be soft on him while posturing otherwise, because he’ll be the ticket for Obama (or Hillary) to win.
