US economy just a notch above Greece
Times ^ | 4/22/11 | Times

US finances are in almost as troubled a state as the worst-hit members of the euro zone, economists say, underscoring the pressing need for Washington to reach agreement on how to reduce the deficit. A gauge of "sovereign risk" from economists at Deutsche Bank placed the United States just behind Greece, Ireland and Portugal among 14 advanced economies. The report, from economists led by Peter Hooper, warned that a failure to make substantial political progress on deficit reduction "would substantially raise the risk of a bond market crisis".

Obamanomics aside, the US government OWNS 650 million acres. They actually own even more when it comes to mineral rights, plus, there's this 200 mile economic zone that includes a very substantial percentage of the Pacific Ocean.

The Greek government owns..... and, the German government owns.....

The Russian government probably beats us left and right since they own SIBERIA which is huge.

Then there's this huge pile of gold ~

So, let's get back to how that analysis is done. I'm pretty sure it didn't take into account land as an asset ~

The USG owns the USN.

That’s pretty much all one needs to own to rule the world.

Of course, they’re pissing it all away, but no tree grows to the sky after all.

Own gold. ;^)

Onliest way to know is PUT IT ON THE MARKET. I got my eye on some of that Lawziana Offshore stuff ~ just sell it. The place doesn’t need to be federally owned. Like look at how well the federales dealt with the mismanagement of the BP blowout. Federal ownership stood in the way of cleaning the place up.

I'd be using the Carrier Groups to encourage payments of rent to us.

It's just a major highway ~ it comes through your land and all at once you own an INTERCHANGE and there's room for hotels and stuff where you used to have just a stuffy hog shed.

Yup ~ when our Carrier Group comes your way you get to make money rather than cower in terror from the bandits and enemy aliens from the next country over.

You should pay!

We definitely handle the Carrier Groups stupidly.

BTW, Trump is ahead of some of us on this idea. He knows what rent is about, and put that way, people will pay.

One possible future would have the USN rule the world more or less directly.

Far preferable to the UN, imho; and republican democracy and representative government having been more or less abandoned in the early XXIst Century, it represents a coherent alternative polity to the existing squalid world order.

THe US government can not sell assets en masse until the US Government admits the US Dollar is completely worthless, because the US Government can not sell assets denominated in a currency the Fed knows will be further devalued to near nothingness in the near future.

The US Government will only begin to sell US land and extraction rights en masse at the point similar to Zimbabwe where only the kleptocrats in the inner circle here and their enablers abroad can amass the hard currency in denominations of hundreds of billions or trillions of US dollars needed to satisfy the barriers to entry fix at the corrupt auctions.

Probably will see it this decade though, sadly.

Unlike Zimbabwe the United States already has a large number of potential investors waiting in the wings ~ that's because our assets have value and Zimbabwe's don't.

You'll find even Mugabe's "inner circle" keeps most the loot abroad!

"I'd be using the Carrier Groups to encourage payments of rent to us."

...looks like a very old British tactic, twice tried in the USA. ;-) The commies continued to try to use it, after the early autocrats failed with it.

The Brits invaded and took over Argentina in the early 1900s solely to force their payment of debts.

That's why Argentina ended up with British breeds of cattle, British gauge railways, British private schools, and so on.

What I'm talking about is simpler. We have our fleet sailing about all over the place. We ask for a supplemental payment so we can maintain the regularity of visits to your shores. You can pay or not. If you don't pay we don't hurt you ~ we just don't visit as often.

That way we take care of our interests as well as our treasury.

We can get much more sophisticated with our anti-missile batteries. There we can set standards regarding launch times. Let's say it takes a 2 minute warning and we can hit those missiles in boost phase. Or, with less of a warning we'll hit them at apogee. With even less it's going to be right overhead the capital city of the country we are helping. They can opt to pay rent for the highpriced spread, which comes down in Iran or Korea, or the low rent which brings any debris down on them (but they don't die from it).

If they chose the low cost option, we regularly hit them up for more money cause "'em air Iranians' got much better missiles this year ya know".
