Gov. Deval Patrick’s skyrocketing political star could come crashing down in the mud if he’s forced to reveal damaging testimony at the upcoming corruption trial of former House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi, experts and political foes say.
“It’s the worst of all possible worlds for Patrick,” said
Thomas Whalen, political professor at Boston University. “He’s looking to the national spotlight but Massachusetts is like quicksand, you try to get out and it sucks you back in.”
DiMasi’s trial starts next week at a time when the governor is in the midst of a national media blitz promoting his memoir, “A Reason to Believe.” Patrick is also set to become a key national player in President Obama’s re-election bid.
But the governor is also one of a number of high-profile Massachusetts politicians who may be called by DiMasi’s defense team to testify about why the administration awarded a $13.3 million contract to software company Cognos. DiMasi allegedly got $65,000 in kickbacks for helping secure the Cognos contract.

MA has elected “Republicans” statewide, 16 years worth of Governors (1991-2007). They were the reason the state deteriorated to the point of electing trash like Patrick. What these states need to do is elect CONSERVATIVE Republicans to statewide office. Liberal RINOs are worse than Democrats.

Although, I did not vote for Weld again in ‘94, or for Cellucci in ‘98. I did vote for Milt in 2002 though. The term “RomneyCare” hadn’t been created yet.
