Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson announced today that he's running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
"I'm ready for a different America," Johnson said in a statement today. "I'm ready for the day when a person can build a good life on a decent income, and we can take our government at its word."
Johnson announced his candidacy Thursday morning on the steps of the New Hampshire State House and plans to spend three days in the early-nominating state meeting with supporters and visiting local businesses.
I'm not sure this counts for being labeled an extremist by the author here, but it's your call.

Do you think that she ever forgets what that child might have looked like? Might have been like? Like her? Like her father or mother?
Maybe my theology is off today or something, but let me proffer this. Doesn’t Scripture teach that sin nature is passed through the blood?
Recently in Texas there was a tragic case of a girl being raped by 12+ thugs. What’s your position on the possibility of her being pregnant?
Actually the number of rapes that result in pregnancy is very minute.
Secondly, years ago on FR there was an account of a woman, the product of a rape, who was raised by her mother and her mother’s husband (who obviously was not the rapist) but he raised her like his own daughter. She considered him her real father.
She was so thankful that her mother and father didn’t kill her, due to being the product of rape.
That’s all I have to say.
Ah, shucks, that's an easy one, Leo.
That will be a great day, because the day the Republicans field a pro-choice candidate for president, a third party will instantly become viable. A true conservative we can vote for in good conscience will lead it to replace the GOP in our two party system. And then we can lay to rest this charade that the GOP is a conservative party.
And, as you noted, not all women want to kill a child because the father is a criminal. In fact, if the left wasn't constantly telling pregnant rape victims that they should kill babies, a lot less probably would.
It’s unlikely that she’s pregnant, but not impossible. Let’s say for the sake of argument that she is pregnant. How would having an abortion make her life better?
So in your little world some people aren’t sinful.
That’s interesting. So the “sinful” ones should be killed. Who gets to decide who’s who?
You're absolutely out of control.
I’m sure a lot less would. The natural God given maternal instinct it to care for and love the child, no matter who the father is.
These “arguments” are blood curdling.

"I am extremely grateful to and proud of Cardinal Ouellet for speaking up to defend the lives of those of us conceived in rape,” says Deborah Morlani, a wife, mother of five children, pro-life speaker, Catholic writer, registered nurse and grad student working on her Master of Theology degree.
Cardinal Marc Ouellet, the archbishop of Quebec City and primate of Canada, has endured condemnation and vilification from the mainstream press, abortion advocates, and Quebec and federal politicians, after he explained Christian teaching on abortion at a pro-life conference hosted by Quebec Life Coalition this past Sunday.
The cardinal, when asked by reporters about abortion in the case of rape, said that rather than helping the victim of rape, an abortion actually adds a second victim – the unborn child. “The child is not responsible for how he was conceived, it is the aggressor who is responsible. We can see him (the child) as another victim.”
Morlani has responded to the backlash against the cardinal, relating how she was conceived when her mother was 16 years old and was sexually assaulted while on a date, and how grateful she is that her mother chose life.
"When she found out she was pregnant there was no doubt in her mind that I was her little baby and she was going to keep me and ensure that no one hurt me like she was hurt. She always felt very protective of my life while I was growing in her womb and throughout my childhood," Deborah explained.
"My Mom made a doll named Suzie for me shortly after I was born and I still have her to this day. This little 12" handmade cotton doll has meant a lot to me over the years; she reminds me that I was a baby worth loving no matter how I was conceived. She reminds me that all babies are worth loving, no exceptions."
Morlani told LifeSiteNews.com that one of her “missions” in life "is to defend the lives of babies, like me, who were conceived in rape and to work toward ending the discrimination and hatred aimed toward us."
She said she questions why “some people hate those of us conceived in rape so much that they would condemn us to death simply because of how we were conceived?
"It is cruel, hateful, and discriminatory. We are not criminals; we are innocent human beings who deserve a chance at life just like everyone else."
Morlani expressed her concern that "some people still cling to the idea that certain human beings' lives are worthless simply because of how they were conceived."
"Talk about taking us back to the middle ages," she remarked. "Such ignorance, hate, and discrimination deserves to be left in the past for good. All innocent human beings - including those of us conceived in rape - deserve to be treated with dignity and respect from the moment of fertilization no matter what their race, religion, gender, or how they were conceived, whether born or preborn."
Morlani said, in reference to the cardinal's remarks, that, "The fact that the Catholic Church defends the lives of all preborn babies, no exceptions, has always made me proud to be Catholic."
We’ve just went through 8 pregnancies.
3 miscarriages.
5 happy, healthy girls.
So I know what I’m talking about when it comes to pregnancy and having babies.
Pregnancy is tough, miserable and at times frightening.
The 1 of the 3 miscarriages had us rushing to the emergency room with surgery recommended.
My wife’s last 2 pregnancies were awful on her. If my wife were to get pregnant again, it probably would put her in the hospital.
My friend’s wife just had a baby and she had to be rushed to the ER, and her pregnancy was absolutely miserable. She’s lethargic, miserable and wiped out.
Pregnancy can KILL YOU.
I just don’t get this kind of reasoning. Forcing a loved one to not take a pill after she’s raped and forcing her to potentially get pregnant. Putting her health and life and future at risk. And yet, isn’t Scripture replete with verses that a person’s nature carries through their blood. So far, no one’s presented a good enough argument to convince me otherwise.
Huuuum.
I think you are a bit uninformed.
This all started from:

And hes pro-child-killing.
I doubt he is for killing children.
Please, for the sake of conservatives, call it abortion.
He's pro abortion.
Killing children means he goes to playgrounds and shoots or slices living, breathing skulls full of mush.
Do you see the difference?

Why do you not believe me? Is is because multitudes of pro-life extremists do not like the words:
“Killing children means he goes to playgrounds and shoots or slices living, breathing skulls full of mush.
Do you see the difference? “
OH! Leo is SUCH a jerk for writing those two paragraphs!
How can anyone who is against abortion write such droth???
Please, for your own self, try to see what is and has happened on this thread.
Please.
I do mean it.
Please do add me to the TLFEL.
Along with every other true conservative in the USA ;-)
Thanks, I’m glad Gary Johnson doesn’t hold such barbaric and cruel reasons for being okay with rape victims allowed to have abortions. But I don’t like his position. There are people alive today who were the product of rape who are very thankful they were not killed.
To answer your question.
Who’s likely to produce better people, Sarah Palin or Charlie Manson or George Soros?
Your theology does appear to be just a little off today. We all sin because of our fallen nature, passed down to us through our first parents, Adam and Eve. Rapists aren’t the only ones with a fallen nature, and the children of rapists are not any worse than the rest of us.
What’s my position on the possibility of that girl who was raped being pregnant? My position is that the horrible tragedy she suffered will not be made any better by the death of her child, should she become pregnant. If the girl chose to abort her child, then I would have compassion for her. I would not presume to judge the state of her soul with God any more than I would judge the state of anyone’s soul. But I would still say that objectively speaking, what she did was wrong, and if she asks me, I would counsel her against it.
Incidentally, just the other day Martin Sheen revealed that his wife was conceived in rape, and that he was grateful that her mother did not choose to abort her. This is why he, too, opposes abortion, even in the case of rape and incest.
I have a friend from my teenage years who became pregnant through rape. She, too, chose to carry her baby to term. She gave the baby up for adoption, and still prays for him.
Such a response is not as unreasonable as you seem to think it is.
I really doubt that.
I'm being attacked by zealots and I'm on your side.
I have every right to fend for myself.
You are awesomely foolish, aren't you?
Can you name them, please?
