'The mainstream base is not concerned with where Obama's birth certificate is'
PALM BEACH, Fla. Donald Trump and Rush Limbaugh are two of America's best-known characters, but when it comes to articulating a truly conservative political message, Rush says he needs to take the Donald to school to get it right.
"If Trump is serious about [running for president], I'm going to request a meeting," Limbaugh said today from his South Florida radio studio. "I'm gonna take him aside. I'm gonna say, 'Whoever is telling you about conservatism is misleading you a little bit.'"
Trump has been making the rounds on major media programs in recent weeks, dangling a potential Republican bid for the White House as he talks about getting tough with China on trade, and his suggestion Barack Obama's presidency might be "illegal" because he has not proven his constitutional eligibility of being a "natural born citizen."
But Limbaugh, the ostensible voice of conservative thought in the nation today, thinks Trump needs to be better educated about what exactly the message of the political right is.
"Conservatives don't want a 25 percent tariff on imported Chinese goods," Limbaugh explained. "The mainstream conservative base is not concerned with where Obama's birth certificate is. We're concerned with his economics, his destroying the economy. ... I don't want the pop-culture crowd and let's acknowledge for a second that they are made up of people who are largely ignorant about us. We don't want them thinking that the number one thing we care about here is Obama's birth certificate!"

The primary reason Trump has risen in the polls is because he has had the guts to take on issue that Rush and other Republicans don't have the guts to deal with.
I got aggravated with Rush when I heard him say all this today. He’s wrong when he says that those of us are “kooks” who are concerned with the fact that Obama is likely illegally inhabiting the White House.
Not only are we not kooks, but we are not “the fringe” element of conservatives. Half the darned country has questions about Obama’s past!
If anyone in “power” had the guts to take on the machine behind Obama, his presidency and all the legislation and executive orders done since he “took” office should be nullified!
Actually, this conservative likes the idea of putting a tarriff on Chinese goods.
Lipstick on a pig.
in which Americans are paying for it. Dumb idea. 25% tarriff is no different to a 25% sales tax
Right. Tariff just means higher prices for the consumer. Shouldn’t Trump know that?
First....Rush is wrong about conservatives and Free Trade. Free Trade is supported by the UN, Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, The Clintons, Barbara Boxer, Barack Obama, Karl Marx,et al. None of these are conservatives. And neither is Communist China. Free Trade is a classical liberal idea
A 25% tariff on Communist Chinese goods brings the jobs back...and puts the US on a much better bargaining position with the Communist Chinese
Rush means well, but he is no history major. And, Trump knows a lot more about business than Rush ever will
And, the Obama Birth Certificate is a major issue in 2012. Why is Rush helping Obama in 2012?
It is sad to see Real Conservatives being trashed for asking Obama to prove his eligibility.
Sorry, Rush, you are either an Obama Birther or an Obama Supporter. If you are that afraid of a Trump run, the GOP is much worse shape than anyone had thought
Well, our Founding Fathers believed in them.
Well said.
Nevertheless, the result is still higher prices for consumers. It just gets passed on.
Agreed. There should be a tariff on both imports and exports. Once, we believed in have a strong sovereign nation. The Founding Fathers didn’t believe (well shoot, they didn’t believe in a lot of things today) that we should be so strongly tied to other nations. We are supposed to have a treaty with some, and naturally under the right circumstances, be at war with others. The problem with Free Traders is that their loyalty is to the dollar, not their country.
Anyone that favors a 25% tax is not a conservative.
Right. Tariff just means higher prices for the consumer. Shouldnt Trump know that?
I guess you prefer welfare checks and goverment benefits to Americans....and wealth sent to the Communist Chinese.
That costs us a lot more tax dollars than a tariff on Communist China ever will.
And, I did not even address the interest and the repayment on the debt we have with the Communist Chinese....
a 25% tarrif will not bring back the jobs. You think Zimbawae, Cuba or North Korea will bring in jobs by imposing a 25% tarrif? What is profitable to make stuff in china, will no longer be profitable if made in the usa. The good will simply not be made in the US ever, unless tax and regulations drop
As well they should be. It encourages your own country’s sovereignty, and discourages globalism. Don’t buy from oversees, don’t pay the tariff.

Why did Trump not care about it for the last two years?
Trump went birther for attention. He is a master promoter, and this is some major PR.
But anyone who thinks the guy is suddenly a real, limited government conservative is a sucker.
One can enjoy Trump’s Obama-bashing without supporting his candidacy.
If a person isn’t qualified to hold the highest office in the land, what good is the rule of law and the Constitution then?
Sorry Rush, but you’ve jumped the shark. This is the HEART of conservatism.
And I think Rush knows it, he’s just been petulant ever since Trump picked up on the BC issue, because Rush has made it a point to avoid that topic.
I want to see Obama attacked on ALL his policies AND on his qualifications. These things are not mutually-exclusive.
Yeah, OK, maybe we can get Trump to school Rush on the importance of our United States Constitution and the qualifications for President.
