Frontlines next exposé focuses on the decades of abuse of Native Americans by priests and other church workers in Alaska, and in one particular town they find, nearly 80% of the towns children were molested by Catholic priests.
As we reported on this story just a few weeks ago, the Roman Catholic Church, as part of ongoing lawsuits, will make payments to approximately 700 male and female sexual and psychological abuse, molestation, and rape victims who were living in Alaska Native villages and Indian reservations from Montana to Washington, Idaho and Oregon, and who were sexually or psychologically abused as children by Jesuit missionaries in those states in the 1940s through the 1990s, according to a statement by attorneys.
The latest agreement will financially compensate 524 victims with $166.1 million in cases including accusations against 140 Jesuit priests, brothers, and nuns from the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus, in the Pacific Northwest. Only $48 million will come from the Catholic Church, the remainder will be paid by its insurance companies.
None of the Jesuit priests are being charged with any crime related to this abuse, rape, and molestation settlement.

Why would you say such a thing? Children are a blessing from God.
Hello boatbums....it would be great if they would do so but I am afraid there are not enough of the “faithful” to make much of a dent. And if there were would they be able to overcome their “fear” of their leadership to even embark on such a venture as witholding funds? Only the courageous could do so and again are their enough of them to make a big enough wave?
Come to think of it David did pretty well with a few stones and a sling. Gideon did well with a very small army....Ester and Mordica as well....so it wouldn’t take many, especially if the media was involved.
PBS and congressional Democrats thank you for your support of public broadcasting. Brought to you by The Tides Foundation, The John T And Catherine D MacArthur Foundation and Viewers Like You.
Many reasons why I left the church, mostly because it does nothing for me and I can’t support it, and going for the sake of going would be hypocrisy. My decision, one that was not made quickly, nor easily.
You are skeptical of the 80%, I get it. So, where is your proof?
I condemn child rape, whether its Catholic, Mormon, Baptist, Hindu, Muslim, Zoroastrian, Wicca, Agnostic or Athiest. Its wrong, and covering it up is wrong, and being an apologist for it is wrong.
50% I could believe. But 80% seems implausibly, er, (small-c) catholic. Lacking first hand knowledge, I could be wrong, but I thought Catholic preverts worked the same side of the street predominantly. Which, barring unnatural birth ratios in the instant community, would limit the potential victim population to approximately 50%.
Other than that, they simply don't care about the hundreds of thousands of kids all over the world who were molested.
Whatever. Go ahead, keep dodging questions and pulling things out of your ass.
Here's the conversation between you and caww:
You in 219, referring to me without pinging me: Its actually irrelevant what this person is saying to you and to me.
The dam has burst, and the truth is out. He can live in LA-LA LAND, if he wants to.
Caww in 226: Yes, yourre right...just makes me angry that some still cannot see the tree thru the forest of their own willfulnees not to see the truth.
You in 228: Actually they can see the truth, but they don't care.
They want to protect the church, at all costs. Other than that, they simply don't care about the hundreds of thousands of kids all over the world who were molested.
Are you referring to me in this also? Because people can very well make that conclusion by following the conversation. I ask you not to dodge this question, as you have dodged the question asking whether you had checked this site before posting or not.
That speaks volumes about you.
Goodnight Mr. buccaneer81:
I’ve stayed up way too late. In a few hours, my 3 yr old grandaughter and 1 1/2 yr old grandson will be here for the day, and I will be taking care of them.
Goodnight Mr. WPaCon
Too late for me...
Here’s the entire Frontline show online...

Absolutely putrid. And the bishop they sent to “comfort” the hundreds of victims is a real winner. “Please forgive the church for any hurt it MAY have caused you.”
Unbelievable.
You need me to prove that it's not 80%? The burden of proof is on the people claiming 80%.
I condemn child rape, whether its Catholic, Mormon, Baptist, Hindu, Muslim, Zoroastrian, Wicca, Agnostic or Athiest.
Good.
Its wrong, and covering it up is wrong, and being an apologist for it is wrong.
Yes, and I don't know anyone on this site who have done either of these things.
That actually is more common than one might think. Amazing ability children have today to protect one another. Kids seeing thier parents friends divorce are generally quick to aks their own parents if they are going to divorce. Again this stuff affects the innocent in a broad swath on society and families. This abuse by Priests also affects the children of other churches who in their innocence question if they are safe from their own Pastors....,But ultimately it strikes at the heart of anyones belief in a righteous God...believers and not. Which as we know IS the ultimate assult on God Himself...who is most innocent of any wrong doing of all but often gets the blame.
Good night.
Hopefully the sleep will give you the energy to answer my questions tomorrow :)
PBS thanks you for your support.
:)
Did you watch the show? Do you think those people are making up these wrenching stories of evil perpetrated on children?
None of the priests has been charged with a crime because the statute of limitations has been reached.
Watch the show and tell us if you think the guilt of these men is questionable.
