2. Was not bought at a gun store, and
3. Purchaser couldn't have passed a background check if he did, and
4. Kid was not taught how to properly handle a gun, and
5. Kid comes from a home where parents are absent.

And the report that the “accidentally went off when it fell from his pocket” is a crock.
One has to have the trigger pulled/held back for the weapon to fire, otherwise the safety in the trigger mechanism prohibits the firing pin from hitting the primer.
There was a thread on FR a while back explaining how weapons operate and how silly it is to claim the gun went off when it hit the ground.
Gun-just -went-off is a story to protect the kid.
