You should not be shocked to believe that they learned Russian, the question is not WHO ? but ? WHY ? and their agenda and motive.

I knew quite a few guys at Fordham University in the 60’s who were studying Russian . . . all were in the ROTC and most went onto military careers from which they are now retired.

Well in the fifties this guy learned Russian

I studied Russian, in high school, in the 60’s My grandparents were from the Ukraine so I thought it would be a great language to learn. It was extremely difficult because you have to learn a new alphabet first. Never did become at all proficient.
