I remember when the racing world limited the “Wankel” engine (rotary) because it had to potential to kick the piston engines butt.

Rotary engine with push rods (gates). The part I find fascinating is the percentage of power operating rules. IOW, it’s a constant speed engine if I’m correct? That would solve many, many problems.

Someone built a better Wankel it seems.

The wankel had issues running well on diesel. This mock-up doesn’t care if you use diesel or gasoline. Additionally, this is smaller and lighter than a typical rotatory.

It has a long way to go to beat the turbo encabulator.

Think about the additional applications for a motor this size: snow blowers, lawnmowers, generators etc.

This engine will be great for cars like the Volt to run a generator, but not much use in a direct drivetrain it seems.

Ultralight aircraft. Less weight is always a good thing, especially if your engine dies and you’ve got to glide into a landing.

The Mazda goes MMMMMMMM Remember that one.

Lol. I used to drive one. No sunday trip in cold drizzly weather :)).

But even that was much better than the early German variants, where the drivers had a special greeting - you'd hold up a hand with on, two, three, whatever fingers to signal how many engines you'd burned.

If it works reliably and can be mass produced, it could get really interesting

The thing that seems to be missing from the several new rotary engine designs that have been shown lately (e.g. shock wave, liquid piston) is an actual running engine.

Until I can see the engine purring along with some indication of the power it is generating, I don’t get very excited.

Have I missed an actual demonstration of a working engine?
