Could Legalized Marijuana and Prostitution Save Detroit?

PROGRESSIVE WANTS TO RESCUE MOTOR CITY WITH SEX AND DRUGS

Could Detroit become America’s version of Amsterdam? As far as oft-mayoral candidate Geoffrey Fieger is concerned, why not give it a shot?

Feiger, who gained notoriety as Jack “Dr. Death” Kevorkian’s attorney, believes that legalizing pot and prostitution would attract young people to Detroit, which would turn the decaying city around “in five minutes.”

“I could turn it around in five minutes. I’d shovel the snow and I’d clean the streets and parks. Then, I’d tell the police department to leave marijuana alone and don’t spend one dime trying to enforce marijuana laws. I also would not enforce prostitution laws and I’d make us the new Amsterdam,” Feiger said on the TV show Michigan Matters. Ignoring pesky laws that stand in the way of the continued assault on America’s moral values is apparently not a tactic reserved for Barack Obama alone, huh? (I’m referring of course, to the administration’s announcement that it would no longer defend the federal law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.)

“You make Detroit a fun city. A place young people want to live and they would flock here.” Feiger added. Ahh, the mind of the Progressive. Disney World or ocean beaches for fun? No way. Drugs and hookers in a dying city? Now you’re talking.

Call me crazy, but it’s hard to imagine a sharp young guy saying, “Wow, this is a tough decision; on one hand, I want to go to Harvard, and possibly law school. On the other hand, I’m really tempted to move to Detroit because of the legalized pot and hooker situation up there. This is really a hard choice.”

Maybe Feiger is referring to young professionals who have already graduated from college. After all, one would need a decent job and a fair amount of discretionary income to buy sex and drugs. Oops — Detroit’s employment outlook isn’t exactly a bull market; perhaps tax credits for those who participate in all the fun would “do the trick.” (I couldn’t resist) And of course young folks with insufficient income could simply rob and burglarize. Got it.

“The city of Detroit couldn’t get any worse,” according to Feiger, who says he won’t run for mayor next time because the governor’s job is “more interesting.”

Hey, if it’s good enough for Detroit, why shouldn’t the entire state of Michigan get to play?

Abandoning morality will help. Legalize murder and rape too, then Detroit becomes a utopia.

morons.

If weed and prostitution doesn't do it, then add heroin and gang-bangs. If that doesn't do it, add LSD, ruffies, and hand-balling matches. By that point you won't be able to keep DC politicians away with all that fun and merriment, just relocate the capitol there and make Eminem the mayor.

The Motor City is so far gone down the road of liberalism that nothing can save it at this point. Better to take a huge wrecking ball to the place and start all over again.

uh, hum. That's been goin on for decades. Although behind the scene. Detroit will never recover because it's a leftist Utopian. Blueprint for America if we allow them to continue to rule us.

Ya, I thought Detroit was already full of drugs and hookers and gangs and God knows what else. The only difference would be that the cops wouldn’t deal with it anymore.

Should declare the city a tax-free zone and it’ll recover in 5 years.

“Feiger ... believes that legalizing pot and prostitution would attract young people to Detroit”

Indeed. You’d have legions of young drug users, young drug dealers, young prostitutes, and young johns. But somehow it just seems like an economy based on drug dealing and prostitution wouldn’t be self-sustaining. Still, the Feds could print extra money so that they’d all have free houses, free cars, free food, and free medical care. At least for a while. You know, until the money didn’t have enough room for all the necessary zeros, and it became cheaper to burn the money for heat than to buy actual heating fuel with it.
