on the ground now
very jaw dropping on the radar
Charleston, SC local news reports a tornado doing some damage near St Stephens, SC.
Those in Bonneau, SC are now warned to take cover.
They have a chopper surveying damage in Sanford area.. Lowe's.
A big chunk of that store got sucked into the atmosphere.. so far, no reports of casualties
Goldsboro has nasty stuff moving thru .. rotation ..
I know... that’s what I’ve been watching for the last two hours. That whole area around the Lowes looks like someone took a giant rake to it.

Raleigh, N.C. North Carolinians need to be on the look out for fast-moving storms capable of producing long-lasting tornadoes Saturday afternoon and evening.
The tornado threat is greatest in Goldsboro and the storm is rapidly moving northeast at 50 mph. The storm is moving toward the Scotland Neck area of Halifax County.
The threat of severe weather has diminished in the west in Lee, Moore and Chatham counties.
Most of central North Carolina is under a tornado watch until 9 p.m.

A Lowe’s home improvement store on Horner Boulevard in Sanford was demolished by a tornado that passed through Lee County earlier Saturday. Employees described seeing a “wall of churning debris and wind” charging toward the store and were able to herd customers to the back of the store. No one was seriously injured, according to witnesses.
Several homes also sustained heavy damage in the St. Andrew’s neighborhood of Sanford, viewers reported.
WARL facebook page photo section has pictures of Lowe’s.
Listening to highway patrol scanner via my cell phone application. Section of 95 completely blocked.
The tornadic part just passed by us along US-401 near the Wake/Franklin county border. The commercial power is out, and Progress Energy says it will be back on at 7:45. Yeah, right. A high-voltage tower is down near Cobblestone subdivision at New Hope & Buffaloe; no way to get that back up tonight.
Thanks,, they’re showing some warehouses that are literally obliterated..
Also now included in the warnings is areas near Jamestown SC. System heading NE at a high speed toward areas south of Myrtle Beach and north of Georgetown, SC.
ChopperView - a trucking company got lucky and only had a few trailers tipped over and almost dunked in the water near one of their facility
Looks like the main storm impulses will miss DC .. this time. ;-}
That one heading toward Georgetown and Myrtle looks nasty. Lots of people down there for Spring Break weekend.

Amazing the power of these things...
The Skywarn ham radio net was reporting that about an hour ago...lots of trees down around Shaw but no report of damage to buildings or to the Progress Energy Center.

storms like this can knock stuff flat.. or rip it to shreds and send it from here to China.. this looks like a combination of stuff including downbursts of air that effectively act like air bombs, straight line winds aka thundergusts reported at 70 mph or greater, they get hurled to the ground and if you’re unlucky enough to be under one,, I guarantee your ears will pop when they hit.. and your garden shed is likely to be flat too.. if it’s still there. :-|
