Goodbye, AmeriCorps. Hello, FoodStampCorps

America, the Dependent by Michelle Malkin Creators Syndicate Copyright 2011

So much for the new era of fiscal responsibility. The federal government’s dependency drones have been spared the chopping block. After vowing to eliminate funding for President Obama’s bloated $6 billion AmeriCorps social justice army, House Republicans retreated — and will shrink the AmeriCorps budget by a minuscule 6.7 percent.

Politicians originally sold AmeriCorps as an alternative to big government — a program to “renew the ethic of civic responsibility and the spirit of community throughout the United States.” With bipartisan support, the program has morphed into an all-purpose progressive slush fund. Instead of reining in the national service boondoggle, Washington has turned taxpayer-subsidized helping hands into a legion of Nanny State handout helpers. Goodbye, AmeriCorps. Hello, FoodStampCorps.

Yes, across the Internet, the feds are recruiting AmeriCorps VISTA (“Volunteers in Service to America”) workers to apply for jobs as publicists for the welfare state. Their mission: to sign up as many people to federal food stamp rolls as possible. Because, you know, the record-breaking 12 million that have been added since Obama took office is apparently not good enough.

Yeh, I noted this morning that this is the first time in Marxist history that the commies are mustering fat, stupid, lazy useful idiots who hate guns and don’t know how to use them and whose battlecry is “Make love, not war.”

Power comes out of the barrel of hookah, dude.

So sad.

This is a vote buying scheme. Get as many people as possible hooked on food stamps then tell them the republicans are going to take them away.

The district where I teach is considered an at risk, poverty district ( Our state recently surpassed New York as the state w/ the most Teach for America teachers..............we have a large group in our district) & we have Americorps. If you have no idea; they are the bottom of the barrel. These are people who have no business being a a school.

From what I have witnessed it is a huge money waste. Two years ago when we had a faculty meeting and a group of Americorps volunteers ( which is deceptive because they receive money!) was introduced I seriously thought they were visiting from the local mental retardation school. They looked utterly pitiful; like they had just rolled out of bed.

I don’t understand the “logic” behind welfare “helping” the economy because the recipient SPENDS the money. WHERE does the money COME from? People who PRODUCE things of value. It’s like saying bank robbers are an asset to the economy because they BUY things with the money they steal. Or people who burn down buildings help the economy, because now they hire people to rebuild the ruined building. Someone PLEASE explain this to me.

How are they any different from ACORN?

The food stamp program has been renamed SNAP (another cute Commie tactic)...Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Now it is offered to college students who have less than $2,000 in the bank. They get $200 worth of food stamps per month. That saves them $200 to divert to pot, beer, and other vices.

This is one reason why Food Stamp recipients have increased exponentially since the Commie took office.

Ask Nancy Pelosi to explain. She seems like she understands it.

I’d sooner the agency pass out food stamps (or their modern equivalents) than what it had been doing, which was to harass me about my grass.

“Power comes out of the barrel of hookah, dude.”

Who manufacturers the “Hookah” and what calibre or gauge is it?

College students can get food stamps now? WTF! When I was a student in the mid 80s I had work/study where I made $200/ a month. and I lived in a sleeping room for $140/month. So I had $60 for food per month. Even in the 80s 15.00 per WEEK didn't go far. I lost a ton of weight. I ate toast with artificial cheese and a dab of tomato sauce EVERY night. I tried to get food stamps because I was LITERALLY starving, but was turned down, because I was a college student. My family provided NO support.

I remember when I got a real job at $8 per hour. With my first check I bought about a hundred dollars worth of food. I felt like a king. But I will never forget starving. I think that's why I am so angry when I hear of people getting food stamps and their kids get three meals a day at school. Even in summer. What the hell do they do with the food stamps, then? Buy filet mignon?

I try to be sensitive, because of where I came from, but when I truly needed help, I got a door slammed in my face.

HA!!!!!!!!!!!! We are 45 minutes south of Memphis (Thank God)................so yes; we have that whole Memphis crime and entitlement running thru the town’s veins............

I sadly don’t even go shopping at my favorite mall in Memphis anymore; too dangerous & not worth it. I found a wonderful, safe outdoor mall in Collierville.

Friends who live up north & east don’t understand why we don’t do Memphis..........you really understand only if you have lived there or close by.I feel so sorry for people who have grown up there & watched a once beautiful place become a cesspool of crime & welfare. It must be heartbreaking.

I do most of my shopping in Millington, Bartlett or at the Navy Exchange.

The Hancock fabric store in Raleigh has been robbed several times, and one of the many shop lifting incidents happened when I was in the store.

Business is so bad in our area Sears is closing at the Raleigh Springs mall.

Only thing Memphis is good for is a doctor, then you have to watch what area you are going to.

To bad GPS’s don’t know the good areas from the bad. I’ve been here 24 yrs.

I hear you. When I was a starving student in the fifties, my spouse and I lived on $20 worth of food a week. Fortunately, we loved peanut butter and tuna fish.

A relative who received bulk food from the assistance office(her hubby had run off and she had 4 little kids to feed) used to share some of her peanut butter and powdered milk with us. (Her kids didn’t like those two items.)

On Saturday we went to Mom’s for the only real meal of the week. God Bless Her! She fed us and 15-20 others with a huge roast and all the trimmings every week. She herself was a widow working hard at a government job.

It’s crazy today, esp. the Obama version of welfare. You should see the low-IQ low-effort fat kids attending our state colleges here in PA. It’s a disgrace.

And now they get “free” food?
