Raise taxes on the rich to help us all
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4/15/11 | Joshua Pechthalt

Posted on 04/15/2011 9:22:46 AM PDT by SmithL

Most of us will pay our fair share of taxes on April 18 - perhaps even more than our fair share. But not everyone is ponying up. General Electric, for instance, paid no federal income tax last year on billions of dollars of profits; worse, its army of tax attorneys convinced the IRS to pay the corporation a refund.

Closer to home, the top 1 percent of California's income earners has doubled its share of all income earned by individuals in the state, but pays a lower tax rate than before.

Yet, when Congress extended Bush's tax cuts for the rich in December, it handed California's wealthiest 1 percent a $9 billion tax windfall - equal to half this year's state budget deficit.

It's time to rethink taxes. The law that governs how we set taxes in California is not only broken, it's breaking the state.

A couple of weeks ago, Gov. Jerry Brown announced that his budget negotiations with Republican legislators had failed. Apparently their "no new taxes" pledge has morphed into "no old taxes, either."

It might come as a shock to these legislators to learn that a new public opinion poll shows that their own rank-and-file party members disagree with their rigid stance.

Terminating the unproductive members of society would also “help us all”, I suppose — but I’m not going to suggest it. Why? Because, unlike the Democrats, I’m not an idiot.

Most of us will pay our fair share of taxes on April 18...

What better way to start a fiction? Nearly 50% of the population clearly pays way less than "its fair share" in taxes and yet, this communist moron wants to continue to punish the so-called "rich". It was democrats that enslaved black folks in 1860, and it's democrats that are enslaving the productive taxpayers in 2011.

It's time for a FLAT tax with no deductions - it's time for the freeloading deadbeats that make up the base of the democRAT party to pay THEIR fair share!

But not everyone is ponying up.

Right premise, wrong conclusion. As usual the libtards get it 180 degrees bass-ackward. It's that 49% or whatever that no longer pay taxes that needs to pony up. Once they have skin back in the game maybe they won't be so quick to take the gubmint handouts.

Time to scrub the tax-eaters.

It's time for the "no new taxes" crowd in Sacramento to stop blocking our path to California's future.

So, this so called "teacher" believes that California's future is in the bank accounts of "the rich". This jackass is one sick puppy.

Tax the rich and see them flee
From here to balmy Italy!
Like former manufacturing,
taxes are most fracturing.

If regulation’s grip relaxes,
Oama doesn’t raise their taxes,
Perhaps the good ole days return,
Abort another Rome to burn

Basically it is down to Democrats wanting to tax other Democrats on the coasts, and here in Chicago.

Only a school teacher would believe that any business pays a tax!

Eliminate all taxes on business and consumer prices will fall.

Until them you consumers are going to pay the tax plus overhead and profit added onto the tax figure.

“but I’m not going to suggest it.”

I will!

Eliminate all social programs.

Either make your own way in this world or quit taking up space on the planet.

Left wingers conveniently produce polls that show that teh rank and file really want to raise taxes?

You think we’re stupid?

[GE's] army of tax attorneys convinced the IRS to pay the corporation a refund.
IIRC, that's already been proven false.

It’s not the tax rates, it’s the loopholes and structure that helped GE pay nothing.

I think they should raise taxes on the American poor and private sector working class.

More than jobs are leaving.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Rising Hispanic Population Transforming Texas

Recently released data from the 2010 U.S. census shows significant growth in the nation's Hispanic population.

And nowhere has that growth been more dramatic than in the southwestern state of Texas, the state with the biggest overall population increase during the past decade.

Not long ago, the annual Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Luncheon was the city's biggest Hispanic business event of the year. Now it is the biggest business event of any kind in the city

the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has experienced a 600 percent growth in membership.

Many businesses here see an advantage in hiring local Hispanics who can help them build links with Latin America. "We have several clients from Latin America, Spain," said Grados. "And even though they speak English, they feel more confident, secure speaking Spanish. And it is an advantage to be bilingual." Rice University sociologist Steve Murdock says the future of Texas depends on Hispanics, because they are the fastest growing segment of the state's population. "Sixty-five percent of the [population] growth in Texas was due to the Hispanic population," said Murdock. Census figures show the population of non-Hispanic whites, often called Anglos in the Latino community, is increasing at a much slower pace than that of Hispanics. non-Hispanic whites. "The modal minority is a Hispanic male, 25 to 29 years of age, with less than a high school level of education and making about $35,000, down about $3,000, in real dollar terms, from 1999 to 2009," he added. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2704138/posts

Here's a thought experiment:

Suppose we take Michael Moore's suggestion and just confiscate everything from everyone who has more than he does. How long would that pay for the government? A year? Then, what do we do next year?

Joshua Pechthalt is a liberal. Joshua Pechthalt is an idiot. But I repeat myself.

According to a statewide survey last month of likely voters sponsored by the California Federation of Teachers, more than three-quarters of those polled - 78 percent - would support a 1 percent additional tax on the top 1 percent income bracket, people who make more than $500,000 per year, rather than see further cuts to schools, public safety and other vital services.

I wonder how many would support a 5 % reduction of pension payments to retired teachers, or better , raising retirement age to 70 for desk jobs ? Do you want to poll on that Josh?

Damn straight! The way I see it, if they pay taxes, they’ll be less inclined to vote for someone who promises to raise them.

Of course it probably won’t happen in my lifetime...
