Libertarian-leaning Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul has formed a so-called "testing the waters" fundraising account ahead of a possible 2012 presidential run, Paul aide Jesse Benton confirmed to CBS News.
According to Benton, Paul "is close to making a final decision and it is better than 50-50 that he will enter the race in May."
A run by Ron Paul would almost surely mean that his son, GOP Sen. Rand Paul, will not seek the presidency. Rand Paul, who shares many political beliefs with Ron Paul, has been considering a run if his father does not seek the nomination.
Benton said that Ron Paul has already raised more than $1.2 million through his political action committee "to help him weigh his political options," adding that "he has the structure in place to hit the ground running if he makes the decision to run next month." Benton is the director of Paul's political action committee, LibertyPAC.

Better than voting for a gadfly...
Sure...like most who follow the media. I’m sure it will be the same...things won’t change. The game moves ahead. Just more taxes, deeper deficits and the continuing loss of freedom. That’s why our country is on the verge of collapse and we are about to lose the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. Like I said earlier...when this empire implodes...I hope you are ready. It’s gonna get ugly.
Maybe. I don't worship politicians, so I wouldn't know.
All I know is that I've seen the Paul Cult on here every election season fawning all over the guy like he's the Second Coming and then yapping like a pack of chihuahuas if someone dares suggest that he is far less than perfect.
Far from perfect...but the closest current politician who espouses the beliefs of our founding fathers.....but since Fox News doesn’t cover him (maybe Fox Business News a little)..he has no chance....so Allegra, which “Republican” do you endorse?
No, he has no chance because he's too far out in left field and votes with the Democrats half the time. And what has Ron Paul ever actually dine besides talk?
....so Allegra, which Republican do you endorse?
Tell me who has declared their candidacy and maybe I can respond.
Whoever it is I end up supporting this time, I certainly will not be worshiping that person.
If it only was that simple. I don’t agree with Glen Beck all that much, but he has given a lot more information on how we got into this mess than you seem to have. If the Federalist is all you need to know, why were its principle authors political enemies for nearly all the rest of their lives?
Fine he advocates stuff in Congress, but what has he accomplished in Congress??
I think you missed my point entirely, RP will never be elected because his isolationist views are so far out of the mainstream that he doesn’t stand a chance. I actually think RP for the most part is right on economics, but I don’t agree with Obama at all, although I can point to you who some of my favorite Republican presidents(aren’t many) are.
no thanks - I liked him as an anti-McCain last go-around, and I like lots of his ideas, and I even think that if he were in office we would not be fighting a meaningless war in Libya (take that, internationalists), but I think we need someone young and not so easily pigeon-holed. And his boy is definitely too green. Let him prove himself.
So who do I like? Someone who can win in the final race, against Obama (or Hillary). Someone who will fight to keep us from becoming a country of the entitled class and the “them that pays for the entitled class” class. I like Christie for now. We will end up having to choose between the lesser of two evils, but one of them will be a lot less evil.
Isolationism is a foreign policy adopted by a nation in which the country refuses to enter into any alliances, foreign trade or economic commitments, or international agreements, in hopes of focusing all of its resources into advancement within its own borders while remaining at peace with foreign countries by avoiding all entanglements of foreign agreements. In other words, it asserts both of the following: 1. Non-interventionism Political rulers should avoid entangling alliances with other nations and avoid all wars not related to direct territorial self-defense. 2. Protectionism There should be legal barriers to control trade and cultural exchange with people in other states.
Nonintervention or non-interventionism is a foreign policy which holds that political rulers should avoid alliances with other nations, but still retain diplomacy, and avoid all wars not related to direct territorial self-defense. This is based on the grounds that a state should not interfere in the internal politics of another state, based upon the principles of state sovereignty and self-determination. A similar phrase is "strategic independence".[1] Historical examples of supporters of non-interventionism are US Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, who both favored nonintervention in European Wars while maintaining free trade. Other proponents include United States Senator Robert Taft and United States Congressman Ron Paul.[2]

Dr. Paul is a non-interventionallist, not a isolationist - there's a difference.
I think you missed my point entirely...
I don't think I missed your point, I see it at FR just about daily - you attempt to marginalize Dr. Paul by pointing out his lack of electoral success at the national level. I always respond to that by stating my "crazy" notion that right and wrong aren't determined by popular vote.
Also, please note that not only did the founders of this nation listed above (and pretty much all the other founders not listed) share Dr. Paul's foreign policy beliefs, Robert Taft - Mr. mainstream '50s republican - did so also.
Ron Paul became an adult in the '50s, and one of his first acts as an adult was to register as a republican and cast a vote for Eisenhower. He's held true to the republican platform that he adopted at that time.
He has maintained his core beliefs since then - it's the rest of the GOP that's moved leftward, towards insanity and national suicide, not him.
It is that simple. I’ll ask for the third time. “ Do you like how the TSA molests little children to save us from the terrorists?”. Have you ever wondered why we are invading and destroying sovereign countries, when our borders are wide open ? Oh... and both parties have done nothing. This is safety and security ? It’s a joke. Our financial system is a ponzi scheme, and we our no longer a manufacturing nation. Our politicians have sold us out. Look around....this is madness. I will no longer follow the masses. But....sounds like some here do and follow RNC talking points. Have at it. This whole thing is going to collapse. Then what?
translation: ron paul to endose obama in May. Democrats cheer.
That’s funny. You (and some other Republicans here) must love Obama’s Foreign Policy. Obama has NOT changed a damn thing that Bush was doing. In fact he started another war and has expanded drone strikes into a sovereign country (Pakistan). It’s a game. The chess pieces move forward. The empire will fall.
Ron Paul, Pat Paulsen
Brothers in futility....
Not much for FRee debate of ideas? Just funny pictures to demonize....Ok. The RNC is scared of Ron Paul because of is integrity and consistent ideals pertaining to freedom and sound money. Those who go after the “money changers” are villified, in order to keep the shell game alive. It’s cool. The game continues. Follow the pied pipers on the right and left.............right off of the cliff. I’ll follow those who are consistent with our founder’s beliefs on what a republic should be.
‘Have you ever wondered why we are invading and destroying sovereign countries,” —
Iraq — because we were in a state of war with Iraq, they were not complying with the terms of the truce, and they had attempted to assassinate our former President, among other reasons.
Afghanistan -- Ever heard of 9/11?
Libya -- Darned if I know.
‘when our borders are wide open?’ —
The government has a responsibility to secure our borders, too bad libertarians do not agree.
‘both parties have done nothing. This is safety and security ? Its a joke.’ —
Our recent chief executives have not favored strong borders. The Republican Party has a policy of strengthening them, the Democrat and Libertarian Parties want to weaken or eliminate border security.
'Our financial system is a ponzi scheme' --
No, social Security and the other entitlements are ponzi schemes, our economic system is crony capitalism.
'we our no longer a manufacturing nation.' --
We are the largest manufacturing country on earth and have the largest income from manufacturing than ever before. Because of increasing efficiency the manufacturing labor force has decreased. In addition manufacturing is a smaller percentage of the total economy, because other areas have grown. We are a smaller part of the world manufacturing base because many countries which did no manufacturing now do so.
'Our politicians have sold us out.' --
Not sure who is supposed to have bought them.
'Look around....this is madness.'--
Been looking around for nearly 70 years and investigated what went on for the previous 5000 years -- This is human nature.
'I will no longer follow the masses.' --
Good for you.
'But....sounds like some here do and follow RNC talking points. Have at it.' --
Don't know whom you are referring to, but in my case I have been opposing leftist and centrist Republicans for 50 years.
'This whole thing is going to collapse. Then what?' --
If Western civilization collapses, which is a real possibility, about Five Billion people will die in short order, and most survivors will live lives that are 'solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short'.
Well said brother. I respect your views and response.
Paul cast himeself as the perennial loser eons ago and nothing has changed since then to make me think any differently of him.
