"I don't have any details on what this individual was doing in North Korea. But we would call on the government of North Korea to release this citizen on humanitarian grounds. And we would ask that they respect and treat this citizen in a manner consistent with international human rights law," State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters.
Toner would not confirm any details about the individual's identity, wellbeing, or why he was detained, citing privacy restrictions. He confirmed, however, that Swedish diplomats, who represent American interests in Pyongyang, have been able to visit the person "recently."

P!
Paging Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter................
Does seem odd that no name is mentioned or statements by family members asking for his good treatment/release.
And just WHAT was this guy doing EVEN CLOSE to North Korea?!
Boy, I sure don’t envy that guy. There are places I would dislike being a prisoner more than in North Korea, but not many.
Probably the guy is in too bad a shape for the North to let him go now, assuming he is still alive, which is doubtful enough. NK interrogation techniques work right at the edge of death and can last for years, as, of course, you know.
