Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced the indictment of a man suspected in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 3-year-old boy.
Prosecutors said Rodolfo J. Temaj-Felix, 24, was behind the wheel of a car that ran a red light on April 2. The car then struck two people in a crosswalk on Westwood Avenue -- 3-year-old Shakir West and his mother, Niya Taylor -- as they walked to day care.
West died from his injuries. Taylor suffered a broken ankle, leg, clavicle, neck and ribs. She remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Prosecutors said Temaj-Felix was driving without a valid driver's license and said his blood-alcohol level was 0.213 percent, more than twice the legal limit for driving.
Temaj-Felix was indicted on two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, vehicular assault and two counts of failure to stop at an accident.
"Again, a family in our community is suffering needlessly as a result of the stupidity and criminal actions of another. It is beyond belief to think that a simple walk to day care would end with such unspeakable horror," Deters said. Prosecutors said Temaj-Felix faces more than 21 years in prison if convicted.
Temaj-Felix was being held on $500,000 bond.

A man who was allegedly holding three illegal immigrants for ransom is behind bars after he attacked his daughter.
La Joya police told Action 4 News that officers arrested 54-year-old Julian Toscano on assault charges and drug charges Sunday evening.
Toscano appeared before a judge on Tuesday morning.
Investigators said Toscano saw three illegal immigrants walking on the street and invited them into his apartment.
Toscano allegedly had his daughter go and buy calling cards for the immigrants.
He then told the immigrants that they would have to call their families and tell them they would need to pay money for him to let them go.
The daughter allegedly asked him to stop and let the immigrants go but Toscano responded by beating her in the back bedroom.
The immigrants fled the apartment but Toscano went out on the street chasing them with a gun a baseball bat.
Police arrested Toscano and detained the immigrants for Border Patrol.
Toscano allegedly had marijuana and a roche pill.

It’s hard to have a lot of sympathy for a family with those kinds of names, except to blame us white people for causing that condition (i.e., through devaluing America and devaluing fathers).
You know, if these so-called right-wing types could get over their hatred of Jews, they would KICK BUTT. But that seems to be a high hurdle.
Please! Someone bail this poor illegal out so he can do the right thing. Flee to Mexico!

...and MSNBC left out the fact that the driver had been in court the week previous...care to guess why? He should have been in jail awaiting a deportation ride.
Please SOMEONE tell me why as a citizen I HAD to get a birth certificate to get a passport? Why are ILLEGAL immigrants exempt from this? And WHY did I have to have a legal drivers license from out of state to get a DL from the state I now live in?
