Religious Scholar? Donald Trump Claims The Koran ‘Teaches A Very Negative Vibe’

So it’s not all about the president’s birth certificate after all. It’s also the Koran. In an interview with CBN, Donald Trump reveals there’s a bit of a religious scholar under all that wonderful hair. Discussing the Muslim holy book, Trump says “The Koran is very interesting. A lot of people say it teaches love and there is a very big group of people who really understand the Koran far better than I do. I’m certainly not an expert to put it mildly, but there’s something there that teaches some very negative vibe.”

Trump suggests that suicide bombings may be motivated by a hatred that derives from the Koran itself:

There‘s a lot of hatred there that’s someplace. Now I don‘t know if that’s from the Koran. I don‘t know if that’s from someplace else but there‘s tremendous hatred out there that I’ve never seen anything like it. So, you have two views. You have the view that the Koran is all about love and then you have the view that the Koran is, that there’s a lot of hate in the Koran.

I'm generally not a big Trump for President fan, but on this topic, he's right. And, it's unfortunate Mediaite attempts to mock him for it. I think that he pretty clearly says he's not a theologian, but that something doesn't sit well with him on the subject of Islam.

What's wrong or extreme with that, that it needs to be mocked?

Trump will get close to ZERO VOTES from voters living in Dearborn, Michigan.

I like that he’s not afraid to talk about it. And that he seemed to be able to without being too disrespectful.

So Trump shouldn’t make comments about the Koran because he’s not a religious scholar?

So is this Mike Joyella a journalist or a religious scholar?

Exactly! Like I said, I'm EXTREMELY skeptical of Trump as President. BUT, he was on Letterman several months ago, and the topic of the Victory Mosque came up. Trump, unlike so many others, didn't wither in front of Letterman on the subject, and he said without equivocation (but respectfully) that the Mosque should be built someplace else. Letterman unsurprisingly bristled, but the crowd enthusiastically applauded.

Trump, for all his faults, really knows how to manage a hostile press. The other candidates could learn A LOT from and he's not unlike Christie in this regard. He can forcefully fight back without looking petty or shrill or desperate.

Just because people of one religion talk about another religion doesn’t mean they are being extreme. Trump is just pointing out the facts. Another fact he should point out is that the Koran is not a part of “OUR” culture and we don’t have to pay any attention to it. If the Middle East wants to follow the Koran, that’s their decision. As long as they are willing to take responsibility for their actions.

You don't have to be a "religious scholar" to know that the Koran is evil. Trump is dead on right here, and he will get flak for it.

I go to church with 'Christians' who don't dare badmouth the Koran, and when I do, they say it's "offensive". Any Christian who bows the knee to Islam is an idolater.

I agree. I hope he also takes on the state of "black america" AND the hatred taught via black liberation theory.

It’s obvious that both halves of what he said are correct. The Koran has lots of noble teachings. However, it also calls for a theocracy, discriminates, makes women second class, and supports warfare, to name a few. The history of Islam has involved violence from the very beginning.

Tell those stupid idiots to go to any Islamic country and see how tolerant they are of Christians and Jews.

Not exactly Churchillian.

Good comments, both of you. In fact, we are considering another church. However, I do have to say, that one of pastors of the church saw my smackdown of the Koran on Facebook, and after church, he encouraged me to keep it up.
