When a Royal Navy warship captured a crew of Somali pirates, it seemed like a rare chance to strike back at the ruthless sea gangsters.
The 17 outlaws were armed with an arsenal of AK 47s and rocket-propelled grenades, and had forced hostages on a hijacked fishing vessel to work as slaves for three months.
But instead of bringing them to justice, the British servicemen were ordered to provide the pirates halal meals, medical checks, cigarettes – and in one case even a nicotine patch – before releasing them in their own boats.
The extraordinary treatment – revealed in a Radio 4 documentary to be broadcast tonight – came at a time when Somali piracy is causing mayhem to shipping in the Indian Ocean.
More than £60million was paid in ransoms last year and pirates currently hold 30 ships and nearly 800 hostages.

The British Navy used to know what to do with pirates.
I saw the headline and was instantly P.Od. Then I started to read the article and when I came to the word ROYAL, that was enough. What do you expect from the Limeys? I didn’t need to read any farther. And to think, the Royal Navy used to really have some stones.....SINK THE BISMARCK, for instance!
If Winston Churchill came back today and saw what had happened to his country I’m fairly certainly wouldn’t be any rope left in England or a spare tree.
Somali pirates now know where to get a free meal.
Admiral Nelson is spinning in his grave while doing a facepalm.
At least he isn’t doing a double facepalm.
And to think the Bismark was “done” by a Fairey Swordfish.
Should have keel hauled them and then let them go.

there has to be more to this story. there has to be. or could Britain actually be that overrun with Muslim influence?

The article fails to mention that while the pirates were being trated to their little party the were steaming 1000 miles out to sea before they were “released”.... hopefully.
I’d like to think so, but unfortunately, I doubt it.
Shameful.
