Chicago school bans some lunches brought from home

To encourage healthful eating, Chicago school doesn't allow kids to bring lunches or certain snacks from home — and some parents, and many students, aren't fans of the policy.

Fernando Dominguez cut the figure of a young revolutionary leader during a recent lunch period at his elementary school.

"Who thinks the lunch is not good enough?" the seventh-grader shouted to his lunch mates in Spanish and English.

Dozens of hands flew in the air and fellow students shouted along: "We should bring our own lunch! We should bring our own lunch! We should bring our own lunch!"

The Gov't is now force-feeding kids and making adults sort their garbage.

1984 is here.

This is not about getting kids to eat healthy, since the slop they serve in CPS cafeterias is overladen with protein, fat, and salt. It’s designed to help compensate for the ghetto kids whose parents’ malnourish them.

I’m sure the real reason for the ban is that CPS gets federal subsidies based on the number of lunches they serve.

They'd have to rip the peanut butter (made with Jif Creamy style) and jam (Smuckers strawberry) sandwich from my cold, dead hands.

Sad thing is they would actualy do it... at least they'd resort to a few stun shots from a Tazer.

Damn it... give me back my sandwich!

This sounds like the perfect chance for the kids to do some guerrilla journalism. Have a lot of kids bring their lunches to school one day with other kids filming it. Either the kids will get to keep their lunches, or the teachers will forcibly confiscate them which would make a great video on youtube.

Fernando waved his hand over the crowd and asked a visiting reporter: "Do you see the situation?"

The nanny-state obsession with "healthy" food is now inciting open rebellion in our schools. When adults fail to lead, the youth must lead themselves.

“The federal government pays the district for each free or reduced-price lunch taken...”

There you have it.

Yup, follow the money. Now every kid has to BUY lunch. Doesn’t matter who is paying, the school collects $$$ from every kid’s meal.

So now the yoots can develop the skills selling blackmarket twinkies that will benefit them later when they move on to crack.

Carmona said she created the policy six years ago after watching students bring "bottles of soda and flaming hot chips" on field trips for their lunch.

field trip lunches were always the best--extra special... Mom would pack a Hostess cupcake, chips, Snack Pack pudding and fruit punch to go along with my sandwich...

Triple decker PBJ’s with chunky PB and a big bag of Wise onion garlic potato chips for me. If I cleaned my room I also got a Ring Ding.

Oh, and in grades 1-12 I never saw a kid with a peanut allergy.
