I have a possibly controversial comment about the winner, Charl Schwartzel, - I think he is directly responsible for Rory McIlroy’s meltdown. Schwartzel is a very slow player and repeatedly threw McIlroy and Angel Cabrera off their rhythm with his slow pace. Had McIlroy been paired with a more serene golfer than Cabrera, or one with a slower pace, it might not have mattered. But Cabrera was clearly annoyed by forced waiting due to Schwartzel’s slowness.
It's part of the game, though. Young Rory will have to learn to cope with this as I expect he will find himself in the position of leader on Sunday more often than not in the future!
I do like your observation. Getting behind a slow poke could have made it very hard to get back on track.
That could be, but if it is true, McIlroy and Cabrera have themselves to blame for letting it get to them. I see nothing wrong with it if it was a tactic because Schwartzel was never warned for slow play.
Interesting comment!
