At least one U.S. citizen was among dozens of men reportedly forced off passenger buses by armed attackers in the northeastern border state of Tamaulipas, where 72 bodies were found in mass graves last week, U.S. officials said Sunday.
The man has yet to be located, said a warden’s message posted on the website of the consulate, which is located in the Tamaulipas city of Matamoros, across the border from Brownsville, Texas.
In a separate warden’s message issued Friday, the consulate had warned that Mexican criminal gangs may be planning attacks "in the near future" against U.S. law enforcement or U.S. citizens in Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi, three northern states wracked by drug violence as cartels battle for territory.

So why are US citizens still going to Mexico?
I’d sooner go to Yemen or Tunisia before I went to Mexico. (And I wouldn’t go to Yemen or Tunisia, ever.)
I just realized the error of my sentence and have to change the subject a moment to ask a grammar question:
I wrote:
I’d sooner go to Yemen or Tunisia before I went to Mexico.
Obviously I should have written either:
I’d go to Yemen or Tunisia before I went to Mexico.
Or:
I’d sooner go to Yemen or Tunisia than to Mexico.
Here’s my question: Was my error an actual grammar error or just a “funny way to put it”?

Noncoms/Instructors told me they had 50 tank drivers on hundreds of tanks, because new recruits are almost illiterate and hard to train. If Mexicans really wanted they can overrun that base in short spell.
Now that was in 90’s under comrade Clinton (who was hated universally on base). Today it's probably bare bones garrison since all specialists are in Iraq and other Hell Holes. God help us.
So why are US citizens still going to Mexico?

I suspect the US and Mexico has an arrangement where they agree to leave our US tourists alone as long as we continue to allow their drugs to flow into our country.

When were you told this?
Things could have changed under Bush and 9/11. One can only hope.
I would imagine they have gotten worse considering the current gene pool.
