The American people have lived too long with paying no price. They now think that the whole thing is a bluff. Money grows on trees and it will always keep pouring in.
People have lived on charge cards buying up things they cannot afford. That is how they were drawn in to this scam.
Now they feel that there is always a way out and that the gravy train will keep on rolling.
Never hurts to go for the best, Charles, if you get half, it is better than nothing.
But anyone that thinks just winning the House in 2010 gives the GOP control of the purse strings, they are fooling themselves. When we failed to get the Senate majority, we were left only being able to sell a promise of what we could do. It would take another election of winning big to make a dent in this nightmare.
True. We cannot simply overthrow everyone every six months. We have to work again in the primaries and get MORE Tea Party candidates into office. Voter ID is the next battle, IMHO.
In fact, the House does control the purse strings. The only question is whether they are willing accept the consequences of their choices.
The House could set aside any budget proposal from Obama and craft their own budget and pass it. They have no obligation to consider anything Obama submits.
The rest of the government may not like it. The Senate may not pass it, and Obama may not sign it, but then at least it's clearly their choice not to fund the government.
The mistake the Repblican House is making is accepting Obama's proposal as the baseline, to which anything less is a "cut". The Constitution gives no budgeting role to the President.
