Gaddafi floods Europe with refugees: this is beginning to feel like the fall of Rome
Telegraph UK ^

Posted on 04/09/2011 7:29:57 PM PDT by Jim 726

Colonel Gaddafi, having foolishly agreed not to arm himself with chemical, biological or nuclear weapons*, a lesson other dictators may heed, has set upon a more surreal but perhaps more effective weapon against the West – refugees. According to this newspaper:

Libya is unleashing a wave of migrants against Europe as retaliation for the coalition’s military strikes against the country.

…Col. Muammar Gaddafi’s regime is alleged to have been actively encouraging boatloads of migrants to leave the country’s shores since March 22, when the first vessel sailed from Tajoura, a suburb of Tripoli.

Libyan armed forces and militias are reportedly turning a blind eye to the thousands of people, many of them sub-Saharan migrant workers who have lost their jobs, who assemble on beaches willing to pay several hundred pounds to be transported to Lampedusa.

The UN estimates that almost 450,000 foreigners have been uprooted by the fighting in Libya but only 218,000 have been able to return home

One of Roger Scruton’s most original arguments against our asylum policy is that it allows brutal dictators to rid themselves of enemies without having to get their hands dirty. But Gaddafi is now using people-dumping as a weapon of war, and a fairly effective one when your enemy has a free media and a conscience.

He’s also in a unique position because one of the West’s dirty little secrets with Gaddafi – one of many – is that his prime job for Europe was preventing sub-Saharan Africans from crossing the Mediterranean, doing so by keeping hundreds of thousands of people in the most appalling conditions.

Reminscent of Cuba's Mariel invasion during the Carter era. Caught Carter flatfooted, of course.

Castro did the same thing to the U.S. some years ago.

If Gaddafi keeps this up and the tactic catches on, about the time NATO apprehends him, most of Europe will have Islamic governments and Sharia law, and the NATO guys will be put on trial for their screw ups killing the guys on the wrong side (whatever that side is).

Gaddafi may be crazy, but he's sure not dumb.

I bet they’ve turned the nice, quiet island of Lampedusa into a living hell.

Beat me to it. And this will catch our current Resident even more flat-footed than Carter because he is

a)even dumber than Carter ever was and
b) manipulated by a much bolder set of court lackeys.

The decision by the euros and their kenyan boytoy obamaslut to fight in Libya was stupid beyond the wildest dreams of stupidity ever conjured up by Bush-haters going apoplectic about Bush attacking Iraq.

The invasion of Iraq was misguided, no doubt about it, but compared to the idiocy of getting involved in Libya it was the genius strategic military move of all time.

Well we all know Castro opened his prisons and mental hospitals and sent them here but for the most part the Mariel boat lift was a tremendous failure for Castro as the number of good upstanding Cubans fleeing his regime shocked even him. Unfortunately it did not shock him in the right way.

BTW, imagine when the Italians try to forcefully relocate the rabble in your picture back. It won't be pretty.

The late Roman Empire didn’t have jet planes to fly every single one of them back where they came from.

In Iraq we should have killed 90% of Saddam’s henchmen and tribe to scare the rest...and appoint a general as the new Saddam. Now that we removed the only thing Iraq knew, the Baath party, Iran owns that place.

Sarcozy should have foreseen this before he suckered Obama into his little intervention. Obama lucked out insofar as he has a 3000 mile sea buffer from Gaddafi dropping his trash on our doorstep. Sarcozy and the rest of Europe will have to accomodate them.

Italy’s response to the flood of Tunisians was to “give 20,000 Tunisians an effective amnesty by allowing them free movement in Europe.”

Just damn.

The fall of Italy happened decades ago, when they decided to stop bearing children. Their “choice”, but God will not be mocked.

Islam is here to remind us why Jesus was here; ignore that, and you can see where that leads: stuck between enemies of religion and religious extremists.
