I had heard that the only problem was that wrong numbers were given to the AP, but the accurate numbers existed and are just fine.

IOW, all that happened was that the numbers from one area were omitted from the totals given to a news organization.

You heard right. And these were preliminary estimates, before official numbers were even confirmed and submitted. Nothing would have been affected by this clerical error. The right numbers would have been officially reported regardless.

Question nobody seems to be asking: does the election clerk have a legal obligation to ensure that accurate numbers are given to AP? As far as I know, the numbers are given AP as a courtesy, and the clerk is under no obligation to give ANY numbers to AP. No duty = nothing wrong done.

The other issue that they are bringing up is that the percentage of ballots that voted on just that one race, something often used as an indicator of fraudulent votes, was reportedly highest in that county. I don’t know details.
