Donald Trump Responds (Slams NYT Columnist Gail Collins)
NYTimes ^

Posted on 04/09/2011 2:31:20 AM PDT by quesney

Re “Donald Trump Gets Weirder,” by Gail Collins (column, April 2):

Even before Gail Collins was with the New York Times, she has written nasty and derogatory articles about me. Actually, I have great respect for Ms. Collins in that she has survived so long with so little talent. Her storytelling ability and word usage (coming from me, who has written many bestsellers) is not at a high level. More importantly, her facts are wrong!

...I don't need Ms. Collins's advice. There is a large segment of our society who believe Barack Obama, indeed, was not born in the United States. His grandmother from Kenya stated, on tape, that he was born in Kenya and she was there to watch the birth. His family in Honolulu is fighting over which hospital in Hawaii he was born in-they just don't know.

He has not been able to produce a “birth certificate” -merely a totally unsigned “certificate of live birth”-which is of very little significance. Unlike a birth certificate, a certificate of live birth is very easy to obtain. Equally of importance, there are no records in Hawaii that a Barack Hussein Obama was born there-no bills, no doctors names, no nurses names, no registrations, no payments, etc. As far as the two notices placed in newspapers, some feel the grandparents put an ad in order to show that he was a citizen of the U.S. with all of the benefits. Everybody, after all, and especially then, wanted to be a citizen.

[...]

For some reason, the press protects President Obama beyond anything or anyone I have ever seen.

[...]

Open your eyes, Gail, there's at least a good chance that Barack Hussein Obama has made mincemeat out of our great and cherished Constitution!

I am in no way comparing Trump to Lincoln - that would be ridiculous. But let’s remember the famous Gettysburg Address story and the poor fellow who made the two hour speech.

This is war. Trump is the toughest bad ass out their, and he is fighting for us. Jump on Romney for gosh sakes, but get out of Trump's way.

It basically comes down to men who know they could never get a date with her and women who have elephant-sized ankles.

Spoken like a true elitist libertarian.

I would have prefered a better written letter. Obviously Trump’s book editors earn their pay. But Trump has finally broken through the wall of silence Onada and his commie buddies have erected to muzzle the BC issue.

That’s what is important. The question of the Usurping Marxist Onada’s eligibility to be president is now fair game. I don’t know if Trump intends a seroius run for the presidency. But I respect and applaud his taking on the BC issue. This is Onada’s Achilles’ Heel. The left will be coming at him furiously from every direction.

Shame on any Red State that permits Onada’s name to be on its presidential ballot in the absense of credible Onada birth documentation.

Maybe we need more “Hahvud” liberal arts or English majors who are adept at writing composition

Mr. Trump's letter is a perfectly literary composition, far more literary than the slop that passes for the cream of liberal thinking these days.

Sure it is not written in the styleo of great imaginative literature, but that is not its purpose. It well and logically lays out the case that he is trying to make.

“Actually, the three journalism courses I took as electives made a point to write to an 8th grade audience in the early 70’s. 70-72.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

That may need to be lowered to fifth grade now. I have read that those who fought and won world war two had on average an eighth grade education but I believe the average level of education is lower now. Of course I am referring to actual education, not possession of diplomas or degrees. I am personally acquainted with some who hold university degrees but have less education than a typical eighth grade dropout from the WWII era.

It is sad that we have become as intellectually soft as we are morally and physically soft, so soft that we don’t understand that simple direct straightforward writing cuts, and cuts to the bone.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Exactly! It is **refreshing** to see plain speaking and concise writing.

He writes like a businessman. His intention is to lay out his argument with clarity using as few words as possible. He did that admirably well.

One of the most conspicuous examples of English prose writing was the following:

"Gentlemen: You have undertaken to cheat me. I won't sue you, for the law is too slow. I'll ruin you. Yours truly, Cornelius Vanderbilt."

Vanderbilt then proceeded to ruin the targets of this letter. Short succinct, direct, simple prose setting forth it's author's thesis with unmistakable clarity.

If Trump wants to whale away at Zero on the BC issue speaking as a private citizen, more power to him. I'm not against anyone trying to embarrass Zero.

But Trump as a presidential candidate?? Absolutely no freaking way. I'd for sure rather have Palin, Daniels, Barbour, Cain, or Pawlenty. I'd almost rather have Romney or Huckabee.

I can’t believe the people nitpicking about the writing style. What that means is he probably sat down and wrote it himself. How rare is that to get a rich powerful guy to actually put down what he is thinking without all the polishing and spinning by some minion media consultant to make sure that the sort of prigs who bitch about writing style will approve?

Yeah, that’s a key point: Trump wrote that HIMSELF. Maybe not great, but he can function without a ghostwriter. The Obama, off script, can’t complete a sentence.
