Deal falls short of GOP cut pledge; 'As good as we could get,' says Boehner (We lost!)
The Hill ^ | Saturday April 9, 2011 | Bob Cusack

Posted on 04/08/2011 10:15:07 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

The bipartisan deal struck Friday falls short of the House Republican campaign pledge to cut $100 billion in fiscal 2011 spending.

The pact cuts $78.5 billion when compared to President Obama's fiscal 2011 budget request, which was never enacted.

The accord cuts $39 billion in actual spending, $22 billion less than bill the House passed in February.

In a brief interview, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Hill the agreement was "as good a deal as we could get."

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), chairman of the Republican Study Committee, said he expects "significant" opposition from conservatives, both to the short-term fix and the long-term spending bill. He said he will vote against both

“Now, if we all will turn our backs on the RINO party...”

Actually, I would rather we take it over.

Much like the Communists/Liberals successfully took over the Democrat party many years ago to gain power. Only difference is we do it out in the open.

We have a better chance of gaining power and saving the constitution that way.

I think it can work.

Turn our backs on the RINO individuals? Absolutely.

I’ve been around for a very long time and have not fallen off the turnip truck lately.

Through many years involved in politics, I have ALWAYS heard the phrase “rather we take it over” when it came to the RINOs and lifers in the Republican party. It’s never happened and never will.

Due to that very fact we find ourselves in the fix we are in today. The old adage “you can lose some battles and still win the war” applies to military actions with outstanding leadership. Now, you have to remember, leaders NEVER compromise, only losers and cowards. If I can recollect properly, the only true leader I ever saw was Ronald Regan...and many republicans could not stand him.

Look around. The cowards and “go along to get along” Republican crowd has already selected “da boy” Romney! Yep, that’s right. They have preselected the next candidate for president just like they selected McNutt last time. The “fix” is always in.

The cancer of cronyism, corruption, selfishness, empire making, political dynasties, under the table deals, enrichment while in office, political bribes, favors by special interests, cowardice, political correctness and a whole host of parasites upon integrity and honesty, have infested the Republican party to the point that it is TERMINAL and cannot be saved. They are self-destructing before our eyes.

Therefore, just like down here in South Texas, you have to burn the land down to the dirt before you can rebuild a ranch from the ground up.

I have been a registered Republican since I began voting about 45 years ago. I am no longer. I look to the Tea Party to hopefully be our “Paul Revere” to muster the voters to form a new party that no cancerous lepers that are currently in the Republican party.

We won and we need to simply keep on winning. Are conservatives going liberal? Are we so emotional that we cannot see the forest for the trees?

This is a long fight. Can you endure it?

That’s such a ridiculous analysis, it’s embarrassing to be a member here when I read such idiocies.

Well N00b, if we embarrass you, don't let the screen door hit you on your way out; nobody will miss the GOP's interns posing as conservatives here.

Frankly, I'm embarrassed that the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee thinks it can plant its shills in this forum to applaud a thorough capitulation, and we'll all go along with the make believe.

Here's an analysis for you: BH0 and the Democrats expanded the size of the Federal government by 25% his first year in office. This despite the fact that the government was already too large when Bush left. The sky would not fall if we cut spending 25%. It wouldn't be unreasonable to ask that at least 8.3% be given back, since we control the House. Guess how many businesses in this country, how many families, how many charities have contracted by 8.3% since 2007. Yet the all-devouring Federal government cannot be troubled to give back even 1% -- and you think anyone who wants more than that is an idiot. You find my position ridiculous, yet you find nothing ridiculous about accepting $1400 in borrowing for the second year in a row! Your position is exactly six times as ridiculous as mine.

Don't post to me again until you learn some basic arithmetic. Your innumeracy is frightening and astounding.

Thank you. It's incredible to me that so many of the cheerleaders here just don't understand math that's taught in the third grade.

There were no cuts.

Of the proposed spending in an increased FY 2011 budget that DEMS COULD NOT EVEN PASS WHEN THEY HELD BOTH HOUSES, Democrats walked away with literally 99% of what they asked for.

In exchange, they got an agreement to hold up or down votes on issues no Democrat would ever vote against, and every single incumbent Democrat already knows he will be facing in 2012.

Please, all you GOP shills, get real.

i already know how much obathturd and his slimebag commie administration and bottom feeder cronies increased spending, I know who they stole it from and who they gave it to. I also know that the reason that happened is because of the 2006 and 2008 elections, which turned out the way they did because knee-jerk, pouting conservatives stayed home on election day with the claim of, “Boy, we’ll show the GOP!”

One could just as easily claim that you whiners are the rat plants put here and in other fora to stir up disunity to undermine any GOP success whatsoever.

Yeah, it was only $38B and some other helpful stuff for a total of $78B and some setup situations for ‘12. But even the original $100B promised would still be chump change by comparison to what obathturd has done. So, from a numerical standpoint that you speak of, the difference is negligible. The big fight is a marathon, not a sprint.

I’m not thrilled with this deal, but this is not the end. It’s the beginning. We’ve sat around with our thumbs up our noses for 45 years letting these commie bastards take over our country. Do you really think that stopping them and correcting the damage they’ve done is only supposed to take 3 months?

Go take a reality pill, quit whining, quit pouting, raise some money for our side and organize turnout and anti-fraud patrol for ‘12.

I feel like I’m talking to a teenager who thinks he deserves an iPad just because he mowed the lawn and took the garbage out a couple times.

Grow up.

Maybe a better way to fix it than to let it collapse further than it already has is to pick more viable Tea party candidates in primaries, work at raising money for them and work at turning out the vote.

I’d rather collapse the rats than collapse the system with the rats in power when it happens.

I think we need to do both - keep the fires lit under our people to reduce all of it while we work to beef up our forces.

November ‘10 was a knock at their door. Look at the writhing and teeth-gnashing going on in WI. This is going to be a long, drawn-out battle and we have a lot to learn about fighting against their dirty tactics. They have advantages we don’t, such as the slimestream media running interference for them with the sheeple. It may end up in the streets. So be it.

Well, as somebody who's been a Republican Committeeman, a poll watcher, poll worker, door-to-door canvasser, phone bank caller, Clerk of Elections, and Judge of Elections for 31 years, it's truly touching to be condescended to by somebody who hasn't been watching one defeat after another of just this kind for over three decades. You may have been sitting around with your thumbs in your rear-end for those years, but me, my wife, and my children haven't been. Thanks for coming to the fight now that it's over.

I remember when I had the stars in my eyes too, kid; I came over from the other side in the mid-seventies, and for a while I thought we could win. We can't. It's over. You have no idea how that makes someone with grown children, and grandkids on the way, feel.

We had an historic tidal-wave election in November, and we've just given the Democrats cover to pass -- literally -- 99% of what they wanted in a budget they couldn't get passed when they held overwhelming majorities of both houses and the presidency.

If you think that's a "victory" you deserve my pity much more than my scorn; I feel sorry for you. After this, the deluge. We lost. You can't spin it any other way. The sound you hear isn't whining, it's resignation.

Don’t give up.

I’m not new to the battle, and I’m not a kid. I’m 59 and I, too, have worked to raise money and elect solid conservatives for many years. I understand the disappointment. Perhaps I view it as a longer process. We must continue awakening America. We need still larger numbers. We need to show them how their lioves are framed by these issues, how their destiny is heavily controlled by them. We finally have a good start. Let’s keep going, not wallow in disappointment. NEVER GIVE UP!

I’m happy to tell you I was never on the ‘dark side’. Both my folks were active in conservative pub efforts and I had those principles ingrained in me from an early age. Dinner table talk was almost all current events and politics. I have never, not once in my life, voted for a rat. In fact, I’d like that engraved on my headstone, “She never voted for a ‘rat” ;)

Seriously, though, thanks for the efforts you and your family make. I apologize for my part in our disagreement about where we are now and where we go from here. I guess we’ll just have to continue to disagree about that, but hopefully withoout animosity.

Have a nioce weekend.

> B. was left between a rock and a hard spot, the only way to get the money needed to achieve their goal and avoid a shut down was somehow tied up with the military paychecks, how exactly,I do not know but I will bet that the deal hung on that issue.

But see - this is exactly why the Dems are able to make Republicans into women killers. They come out of the meeting with their spin ready. What Boehner should have done was come out of that meeting saying:

“I can’t believe that President Obama’s “solution” was to cut military pay!! People who have put their lives on the line, etc. etc. And that he wouldn’t make a deal with someone who would even suggest that.

Why is it that _Boehner_ is between a rock and a hard place and not the President or the Dems?? That is the media brainwashed viewpoint that it’s always the responsibility of the Republicans - nothing more - and for us to ‘understand that’, to me, is the reason why were in the position we are today.

1) The Senate now HAS to vote on the Healthcare Bill being cut The Senate now HAS to VOTE on cutting funding for Planned Parenthood.

OK, but WHEN does the Senate vote on these two issues as promised? At "some later date?"

Have a nice weekend.

Yeah. You too. My Grandpa did not get his head nearly blown off in the Argonne Forest, and my Dad did not spend six years in North Africa and Europe so that any of their progeny would give up on America. Tomorrow I will dust my self off and get back up, again, and continue to fight the Long Defeat.

But that won't make this a victory...

I didn’t say it was a victory. We need to build our reinforcements - need to wake up more people. Think where we were a year ago compared to now. Progress is slow, but America was a long time getting here. The Tea party has been the most influential political movement in many decades, but the work certainly didn’t end in November. I have faith in our people and we will win this. We just have to keep plowing away.

Keep your chin up, but don’t lead with it. ;)

I appreciate the service of your dad and grandpa.

We didn’t lose this one because this budget SHOULD have been passed long before the Republicans took the house....

If you look at the bigger picture, the one we really need to fight for and heavily cut is the FY12 budget.

You forget, we are coming up against the debt ceiling. They vote on these before that comes due, it passes....... if Obama doesn't want the country to default he would have to sign the bills...

Everyone needs to stop thinking myopically and start thinking strategically, everything moves forward a step at a time. Learn to play chess, it is the best way to learn to think strategically IMHO...
