Even my 94 year old mother in law and my 89 year old mother voted for him! And believe me, they are in church all of the time...makes me shake my head in wonder!

“I have seen this happen with a number of male friends. “

I find it impossible to see how someone can be pro abortion after witnessing a wife or someone else close to you being pregnant.
For me the abstract, all the shouting and sign carrying on each side of the issue, instantly became real. It became a person and a life.
To witness that and still be in favor of killing a baby, is the highest level of callousness and lack of humanity.

They need to be taught in the home, by the parents. And hopefully the Catholic schools will back them up. But there’s a lot of semi-Cath goulash out there...

No problem in not believing him, but at least get your facts right, it wasn’t at the CPAC meeting that he changed his mind.

” I’m pro-life, but I changed my view a number of years ago.”

You say you think “most Catholics are hypocrites.” I would argue that people in general are hypocrites. Or, to put it more kindly, their actions fall short of their stated beliefs. But that’s human. Even the disciples couldn’t stay awake for an hour...

Maybe women change their stance due to emotions.

I changed mine watching the Columbine massacre on the internet. I realized that those annoying pro-lifers were RIGHT - acceptance of abortion as a legitimate solution had poisoned basic respect for life. The shooter kids had grown up knowing they and everyone else were expendable on a whim. It was just like a cartoon lightbulb.

Amen, I just have a really hard time with my family voting for this man, and being Dems! Has never made sense to me, I became a conservative in the 70’s and never looked back.

When I pointed out that Catholics should not support a man who believes in third trimester abortion they ignored me. Why are so many Catholics democrats? Makes absolutely no sense!

Well Democrats and also RINOs, mind you have the three trump cards:

1) Global Warming: I find this the one that appeals the most, even if you don’t devoutly believe in abortion, perhaps you are doing the world round a favor by approving legislation such as cap and trade to keep people safe? They even argue about the starving children in Third World Countries for additional emphasis.

2) War ethics: The GOP got us into unethical wars, especially the Iraq War. Here is where they count on you to believe that they are peace-loving and forget past Democrat actions, such as starting Vietnam with Kennedy and Johnson but suddenly turning around when Nixon took the presidency, or claiming that aerial bombings and missile strikes on Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, and Kosovo were really victories without blood, if you have a memory like my own, you would know they weren’t. The liberal logic, with the few exceptions which do speak against Libya
or Afghanistan, is just as warring and devastating on the nations of the Earth, basically pays off with the fact that our own children aren’t getting killed in the wars, so it’s okay. I don’t agree with this statement, but that’s their ethic, not mine.

3) Appeasement: There is the general idea, which is often argued, that if you legalize abortion, legalize drugs, or something along those lines, that you make it go down less. Mind you, applying this blanket reasoning to every case without additional reasoning is fallacious in nature. But the political assurance is that it is less likely to concern you.

4) You can’t legislate your morality on everyone else.

Either way, I figured out a long time ago that #3 was a cop-out, #1 is an exaggeration, and with regards to #2, it’s not the leadership that is inherently moral; it’s the duty of the populace to hold them accountable, which is the point of our dear Constitution, #4 is rediculous on the fact that well, if what you believe isn’t excercised somehow, there’s not much point to believing in it, plus other “religions” such as Islam, various Christian sects, etc, preach to me, and some messed up form of morality is being legislated on us anyways, that does not need, nor should, be passed in a decent society, so I will stop caring about my morality once the other side stops caring about theirs; which won’t come anytime soon.

Either way, most religious people I have known who are either loyal to true-left Democrats or RINOs justify their stance with one of those four points.

Why are so many Catholics democrats?

The same reason anybody is - they want to appear to others as educated, enlightened, compassionate and superior to others. Since there is almost ZERO Catholic evangelization on the problem of evil in the world, this is what you end up with.

I understand. When you get past all the emotion and BS and see the facts, the premise becomes obvious. I hope that Trump is sincere.

You hit the core! God DOES have a good reason for his “rules”. :)

Agreed. The most important way stop stop abortions is to “win hearts”, not arguments. The laws will follow. Culture needs changed hearts first.

My facts are straight, mister donaldtrump liberal. Trump announced his conversion on abortion at CPAC in February of 2011. That was two months ago. Came at the same time Trump said he might run for potus. Trump is following in the footsteps of Mitt Romney. Only a dummy would take cretins like Romney or Trump at their word.

Trump is pro-abortion and has been his entire life. Trump also supports universal health care, gun control and special hate crime laws to protect homos.

If someone supports Trump for potus in 2012, you can bet they're no conservative.

So far you have only made assertions, but presented no evidence to back them up.

What evidence do you have that he didn’t change his mind a number of years ago, as he has stated?

I would like to see the references to his stances on the rest of the issues, because it would be great to let the rest of FreeRepublic know about them.

Here is actually an excerpt from a February article on Trump as well,”I support a woman’s right to choose, but I am uncomfortable with the procedures.”

This interview cited was from the year 2000.

Trump's own words which I have posted and linked from Trump's own book --- "The America We Deserve" --- is all the evidence needed to expose Trump's pro-abortion stance. Same goes for his support of universal health care, gun control and special rights for homos.

If that is not good enough for you, too bad. Lets see what you have. Post what Trump said on abortion from "a number of years ago". Lets see Trump's quotes and lets see the source links. If you're so confident, it should be easy to find. Especially for a good Trump sycophant and liberal like yourself.

Obviously, you haven't read the whole thread. Look at my post at #40.

Also, check out Donald Trump On the Issues. Just don't expect it to include Trump's recent flips on issues since he announced a possible run for potus.
