Conservatives are urging their grass-roots colleagues to mute their criticisms of House Speaker John Boehner and the GOP leadership, and to get behind their efforts to address out-of-control spending in Washington.
In an exclusive interview with Newsmax on Thursday, former GOP Rep. Pete Hoekstra said the tea-party faithful need to give Boehner “a little bit of breathing room.”

“John Boehner chides the GOP congressional representatives with enough integrity to insist on being true to the promises made to their constituents. But if politicians renege on the promises made to their constituents at election time, why should anyone trust them to be true to the promises they make during the legislative process? This is especially true given Congress’ track record over the last several decades. During that time, compromise has been the byword of the congressional budget process (with one brief and notoriously propagandized exception in 1996.) The compromises always involved commitments that would supposedly end the upward spiral of spending and debt in (___) years (fill in the blank). But it’s self-evident that the United States would not face the impending prospect of bankruptcy and economic collapse if a) the compromises were more than political theatre that neglected to address the real problems (e.g., Social Security, Medicare, pension fund guarantees, etc.), and b) the parties had kept even the (inadequate) promises made in those compromises.
When promises can’t be trusted, compromises can’t be trusted either. And were it to be elected, would they tolerate legislative results true to the mandate of the people?”

I don’t understand. Harry Reid talks about the Tea Party. On John Boehner’s Facebook hundreds of liberals have been bashing the Tea Party since 7am trying to get him to cave (I noticed more liberals there than conservatives giving John support)
I never went to the streets with a sign. I never considered myself an “active” Tea Party and it may be the same with many Freepers. But I support them.
Tea Party IS us! The American Tax Payer. When they refer to Tea Party they are talking about Americans who work (most likely in the private sector) and pay taxes and care how our tax dollars are being spent.
The media and the democrats try to define the Tea Party as an organized national group with a national headquarter somewhere. The Tea party is US. When they insult the “Tea Party” they are insulting us.

If we do not increase the debt cieling then they cannot borrow any money and can only spend what is coming in. This creates a balanced budget and cuts spending.
