A vast field of debris, swept out to sea following the Japan earthquake and tsunami, is floating towards the U.S. West Coast, it emerged today.
More than 200,000 buildings were washed out by the enormous waves that followed the 9.0 quake on March 11.
There have been reports of cars, tractor-trailers, capsized ships and even whole houses bobbing around in open water.

maritime salvage law #1: finders keepers.
It does eventually wash across the Pacific. I have a hand-blown glass ball that was once a Japanese fishing float that I picked up on a beach in Oregon many years ago.
More feet washing up in Seattle?
My favorite comment following the article:
“Does this mean that Obama’s long form birth certificate will wash ashore an Oregon beach inside a corked bottle of Indonesian Coke at the end of this year?”
And all of them will be menaces to navigation before they reach us.
But radiation levels are already spiking in the Pacific as well as along the West Coast.
And what is the Obama administration doing about any and all of it?
Planning more golf vacations or attending campaign fundraisers probably.
Deploy the Fleet,target practice.
Just as the debris gets to the West Coast look for the garbagemen in the Western coastal states to go on strike.
You beat me to it! My great Aunt gave my Grandmother one of may she found on the beaches of Oregon in the 1940’s.
That’s cool
Can you burn them while at sea? Unless they’re too scattered.
Won’t all of that get caught in the giant plastic trash field the environmentalists say is in the Pacific? Or will this clean all that out?
Snag me a Sony 60” Flat Panel if you see one. Thanks!

Wait until NOAA and the Marine Sanctuary folks get a load of what’s coming their way.

Relevant corollary: Possession is 9/10ths of the law.
I thought of that, too.
There is an easy way to deal with this stuff. Tell the citizens of LA that a bunch of boxes full of electronics are washing ashore, and they will loot it all.
I think I see a Lexus trunk lid in the upper right corner---on its way to sunny California.
