U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) today led a bipartisan group of senators in introducing the Ensuring Pay for Our Military Act of 2011, S. 724, to assure that military personnel continue to be paid in the event of a government shutdown. The lawmakers urged efforts to prevent a shutdown of government operations, but stressed that a contingency plan must be in place for our service men and women.

Kay Bailey Hutchison doesn't do a whole lot for me, but I like this.

That sorry excuse for an administration has dumped on our military enough already.

Then get them out of where they're being shot at and bombed. That'll reduce their stress levels.

Regardless, the Democrats will filibuster or Obama will veto. They will use this as a tool to force a compromise and a budget.

Our volunteers in the military should never have to worry about their next paycheck, nor their dependents’ benefits. It is a travesty that we have troops involved in conflicts all over the world, risking life and limb for other people, and they may not get paid. Ludicrous. This bill should be completely unnecessary.

But completely normal.

Been through two of these, got paid eventually. It is the operations in Afghanistan that may loose funding that worry me.

Do not forget the numerous 10 day furloughs during Carter.

Also in the 1870 - 80’s there were a couple of years without a Army budget. Caused by democrats of course.

I’m shocked this hasn’t been already done. I mean, what’s going to happen? An Obama veto?

The only thing that would keep it from passing in the Senate is Harry Reid and his Cowboy Poetry Caucus pulling some procedural tricks.

Hutchinson led this? I do find that rather surprising. Hope it gets done though.

would be nice if the republicans took a real vocal stand on this and got out in front of it for a change.
Get on every TV show possible and put up a photo of an abortion clinic and a military unit in the field and make the point that since these guys are more likely to vote republican, the democrats are willing to let them die in the field with no ammo and no pay while they hold up the budget because of funding for abortion.

Set the narrative before they do. always attack, never dig in.

No surprise at all. KBH is extremely pro-military. I live in TX and work for DoD. She's hugely supportive and will be missed as far as her advocacy of the military.
