Obama says little short-term help for gas prices

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. (AP) -- Pitching the promise of energy independence, President Barack Obama cautioned Wednesday that it's going to be tough to transition from America's oil-dependent economy and acknowledged there's little he can do to lower gas prices over the short term.

"I'm just going to be honest with you. There's not much we can do next week or two weeks from now," the president told workers at a wind turbine plant. It's a theme Obama's struck before as he tries to show voters he's attuned to a top economic concern with gas prices pushing toward $4 a gallon.

Obama said he wants to move toward "a future where America is less dependent on foreign oil, more reliant on clean energy produced by workers like you." That will happen by reducing oil imports, tapping domestic energy sources and shifting the nation to renewable and less polluting sources of energy, such as wind, the president says. He has set a goal of reducing oil imports by one-third by 2025.

But the president said it won't happen overnight and if any politician says it's easy, "they're not telling the truth."

"Gas prices? They're going to still fluctuate until we can start making these broader changes, and that's going to take a couple of years to have serious effect," Obama said.

When GWB wanted to open ANWR the dems said it would be another 10 years before we saw oil. That was 10 years ago. I seem to remember GHWB wanted to do the same thing. Same lame excuse and that was 20 years ago. Apparently, Dim oldies stay goodies.

After all this time, if people still believe his s***, then they are as dumb as he says they are.

How about reducing the government's cut?

Obama: “We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK”

"Obama says little short-term help for gas prices"

Of course, with him driving the Saudis to the Chinese, and inhibiting natural gas business starts. On top of that, each and every candidate in each of the political parties will stifle production by taxing the stuff out of oil companies to redistribute wealth to public school teachers and domestic violence feminists.

Hmmm...I seem to recall that when gas prices skyrocketed under Bush, those liberal Dems couldn’t wait to drag the “sleazy” big oil executives before Congress. It’s even worse under the Big Zero, but I’m waiting for the outrage from Maxie Pads Waters, Rangel, Pelosi, et al.

Ha! It will go European style, close $10 a gallon soon to pay for the promised SS and Medicare. People that paid that for 40 years will find out that there's nothing left for them. On the positive side, less money for Wahhabi in Saudi Arabia. We know the negatives already...

Agreed. And the stupid lefties continue to want to tax fuel more for their debt regime.

"If you're complaining about the price of gas and you're only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know," Obama said laughingly. "You might want to think about a trade-in."

FUBO.

Unbelievable. Gas seems to be going up 10 cents/gallon daily here in IL. If they would lift drilling moratorium, gas would go down at least 50 cents/gallon. Shale oil drilling could be implemented. How is wind technology going to help our cars?

A 1960s muscle car? But Obama’s speech writer needs to do the math. If you’re getting 8MPG now and you replace that car with a 35MPG ultra-mini car for $25,000, at 10,000 miles per year, how long will it take you to offset that
$25,000 with your new 35MPG car using $4/gallon gas? $7/gal?

Somebody check my figures. I get 6 1/2 years or more for $4/gal gas, and nearly 4 years for $7/gal gas.

That assumes you pay cash and don’t incur any interest for a loan.

Hey, did anyone notice that the AP has completely rewritten this story to take out the contemptible quote,

"If you're complaining about the price of gas and you're only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know," Obama said laughingly. "You might want to think about a trade-in."

The quote is gone. Dumped right down the memory hole. Hat tip to Glenn Reynolds, who has a screenshot of the old story.

Obama's position is crystal clear. He don't give a damn. The people that are hurt the most are Obama's biggest supporters. They think he is doing a hell of a job.

His biggest supporters are having to cut back on spending for groceries. The cheaper food is the last thing they need. They still think he is doing a hell of a job.

This pattern goes on and on. Obama can blame the Republicans for all his failures, therefore he don't give a damn.

Obama is doing a hell of a job alright.

Yes. The AP yanked the quote.
