A female juror in a high-profile American mafia murder trial was sentenced to indefinite jury duty after giving racist answers to a court questionnaire.
The Asian woman in her 20s was asked along with hundreds of others to provide answers to the survey prior to serving on the jury for the trial of crime boss Vincent Basciano.
But the woman enraged a Federal Court judge in New York by answering the question, 'Name three people you least admire', with the answer: 'African-Americans, Hispanics and Haitians.'
When asked by a judge at Brooklyn Federal Court to explain her answer, she replied: 'You always hear about them in the news doing something.'
The woman, known only as 'Juror No. 799', went on to claim all police officers are lazy, and only use their sirens to bypass traffic jams.
Lawyers in the case successfully requested she be removed from jury duty in Basciano's trial due to her 'inappropriate' comments.
A furious judge, Nicholas Garaufis, held up the woman's questionnaire in court and told her: 'This is an outrage, and so are you!' Referring to her racist answers, Judge Garaufis sarcastically asked the juror: 'Why didn't you put Asians down also?'
The woman replied: 'Maybe I should have.'
Jurors in America have been known to try to escape jury duty by providing outlandish answers to jury questionnaires.
But the Asian woman's views evidently backfired, as she has since been told she will serve on the jury until the judge deems her ready for release.

I think mentioning on the jury questionaire that you subscribe to National Review will generally get you off any jury in any jurisdiction in the U.S.
That might backfire in certain cases like terrorism, child molest, etc. and you’ll find the judge handing you butt over to the men in black suits for ‘enhanced questioning’.
It's standard procedure here too. It just takes a different form here, in that the racists get to accuse a particular disfavored group of racism because of, get this, their race.
Determining the identity of the disfavored group, as well as that of the racists, is left as an exercise for the reader.
I think some folks are pre black listed....I can’t prove it but I know I’ve never been called ever while i know others in my large community have been called multiple times. Other folks I’ve talked to seem to have never been called.
And I hope this petty tyrant gets tarred and feathered.
Summer Re-education Camp!
Yes you do. In fed court, it's $40/day plus an allowance for transportation depending on how far you have to commute. You don't have to be selected for a jury to get paid. You just have to show up.
I wouldn’t want this woman on my jury, and I don’t think jury duty is supposed to be punitive.
If she’s in contempt of court, fine or jail her. Don’t put her on my jury.
Why don't you read what the judge actually said? He isn't going to allow her to serve on a jury. But he going to make her sit around in the courthouse as part of a panel of 'prospective jurors' for as long as he feels like. He is not allowing her to get her wish of being dismissed.
Good for the judge. She's in for some long, boring days sitting on her smart ass.

“My lawyers.two separate, both died of heart attacks in court”
Are you serious?!! Did you witness them both as it happened? Talk about both sides wanting a quick finish to a lawsuit after those events; no one wanted to mess with the possibility of a “higher power” court intervening in the case, ehh?
First of all, she's an American citizen or she would not even be eligible for jury duty. If she's an immigrant who was granted citizenship and still operating on some 3rd world moral system, she needs to have her citizenship revoked and be deported back to whatever hell hole she came from.
I have zero sympathy for people who shirk their duty as citizens, and serving on a jury is about the only thing that most citizens will ever be asked to do.
IMHO, if you don't want to accept the temporary inconvenience of serving on a jury, renounce your citizenship and move to some place where they don't have trial by jury.
How very liberal of you!
For what? Requiring the woman to continue in her jury duty?
Speaking as an engineer...
The closest I’ve gotten to actually being on a jury was for a DWI case a few years ago. I’ve always made it clear up front that I’m an engineer, and as others have noted, that usually gets me right out.
In this particular case, I made it so far as when they were calling numbers off the list and seating people in the courtroom. I’m not quite sure what happened, but the judge called my number and I started walking toward the benches.
The defense lawyer got this utterly horrified look on his face, and the judge looked at the paper again, did an oopsie and called a different number. And with that I was free to go.
But those few moments ... were priceless.
As for this woman, she was unwise, either in speaking her true feelings, or in trying to snark her way out of her duty. I have very little sympathy.
Telling the truth is hell.
Ask Juan Williams.
She is free to say whatever she wants. If the judge doesnt like it, tough. This judge needs to be slapped. HARD.
I haven't seen any one claim that she wasn't.
If she's an immigrant who was granted citizenship and still operating on some 3rd world moral system, she needs to have her citizenship revoked and be deported back to whatever hell hole she came from.
She's not operating under a 3rd world moral system. She just seems to be oblivious to the fact that the totalitarian PC speech police have such a firm grip on America.
Apparently even among self-identified conservatives.
I have zero sympathy for people who shirk their duty as citizens, and serving on a jury is about the only thing that most citizens will ever be asked to do.
She wrote what she thought. I don't see how that can be considered shirking her duty. You fill out those forms under penalty of perjury. Maybe you prefer perjury to free speech.
