SHUT IT DOWN

Shut it down.

If Obama and the Senate Democrats won’t agree to enough cuts, shut it down.

The world won’t end if the federal government takes a few days off.

And if it takes shutting down the gravy train to get the nation’s attention, then let’s do it. Let’s remember that short-term inconvenience is nothing in the context of long-term survival.

And long-term survival is exactly what is at stake. The immoral imbalance of the federal budget threatens to destroy not just the American spirit, it threatens to destroy America.

That is not an exaggeration, that is not a figure of speech, it is a literal reality – a clear and present danger of excess. It threatens our economy, it threatens our security, it threatens our survival. History shows that no nation can long survive with this much debt and redistribution. The end of America as we know it is not science fiction, it is political probability – and not at some distant date, but within the near lifetimes of many now alive.

This is that important.

And while the president pretends that this is about politics, about gaining partisan advantage, as he leads us ever further into the post-patriotic world, his failed policies of borrow and spend were repudiated at the last election. We tried his way, the deficit exploded, the debt piled up, and the people said no.

And they will say no again next year.

In the doldrums of his Libyan war, in the week of the supposed shut down, while issues raged at home and abroad, he launched his re-election. He began asking for money and putting together organization. On the day he embraced Bush policies on trials at Guantanamo, he attacked Bush as the bogeyman of the right.

He’s running for re-election.

The rest of us are trying to save the country.

And the Republicans in the House are on the right track. The voters in November were on the right track.

Cut, cut, cut.

Discretionary money today, entitlement money tomorrow.

We don’t need it, we can’t afford it, we will have to do without.

Whether Obama and the Left intend to bankrupt the United States, in some sort of socialist reshuffling of global wealth, or if it is a mere consequence of their efforts to buy and expand the dependent class, the result is the same. We literally totter on the edge of not only decline, but collapse.

More of the same merely speeds the day of disaster.

No matter how sad the story, no matter how complicit the press, no matter how teary the plea, the answer is, “No.” We can’t afford it.

It all has to be cut.

Start with the earmarks and the bureaucrats, then get the farm subsidies and the green-energy welfare. Cut, cut, cut.

And recognize that entitlements are the hill that must be captured. Unsustainable and soul-destroying, from individual welfare payouts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, nothing is sacred, nothing is off the table, everything needs to be cut.

To the bone.

They have bankrupted us not only financially, but morally.

The lack of individual and societal responsibility – the chip-on-the-shoulder greed of entitlement – have weakened and polluted the American spirit. Our very national character has been castrated and putrefied by the moral corruption that arises from eating your bread by the sweat of someone else’s brow.

The hallmark of liberty – the possession of property – is made as naught by the modern slavery of redistributive taxation which has made the poor house the plantation house and the wage earner the slave in chains.

Tax chains.

Half the population pays the tax while half the populations skims the cream. In the name of progressivism we have penalized productivity and rewarded failure. The smallest percentage of top earners fund the lion’s share of government programs. Instead of bearing equally the responsibility of citizenship, we have legislated theft and declared that certain citizens are entitled to support from the public treasury while other citizens must labor their entire lives to fill the public treasury.

The burden of tax robs the payer of his property and the receiver of his dignity. One loses his wealth, the other loses his self-respect, self-reliance and personal initiative. Together they are diminished by the government.

So covetously avaricious is this lust for money that it even redistributes the future. It borrows in the name of the people debts that could not be repaid by God. The budgets of the future will have no discretion, just the ever compounding interest of debt.

It doesn’t add up.

To anything but destruction.

And today is the day to fight. This is the time, this is the place, this is the issue.

We must fight. Not for political supremacy, but for national survival.

If Obama and the Left can’t realize that, they must be pushed aside, the Constitution must function and the Republic must be saved.

It’s that big a deal.

And if shutting down the government for a few days is the opening salvo, then let the fight begin.

Shut it down.

But wait. If the government gets shut down, who is going to tell me how to run my life?

I don’t get why it’s such a big deal. And why it’s “bad for the ‘Pubs”. I’m old enough to recall the last time it happen- the sky did not fall, the nation did not sink into the sea, fire did not rain down upon the midwest, cats and dogs did not start living together...in short I could not see ANY change in my life or of that of my family and neighbors. Oh, some park rangers had an unplanned vacation. Big Whoop.
I say SHUT ‘ER DOWN!!!

Having followed 1995 budget battle closely I hope Republicans learned from the political mistakes that prompted them to eventually cave and give Clinton what he demanded.

Here's some scenarios to watch for from best to worst case:

1) The Democrats cave before a shutdown(rosy scenario)
2) The government shuts down and Democrats cave to public pressure
3) The government shuts down and Republicans in swing districts get weak knee-ed as their voters complain and Democrats get their spending as Republicans cave, but voters remember this in 2012 when the deficit is out of control and gas prices are high and punish democrats.
4) The government shuts down and Republicans cave as in #3 except voters side with Democrats in 2012.(disaster scenario)
5)Republicans cave before a shut down (another disaster).

Shutdown politics is political hardball! Have a good gameplan.

What’s the worst case scenario? A week? A month? 2 months?
Shutting down is the slap of reality these bozos need, it won’t last long.
Surely you can handle a week or 2. A month at the worst. Are you living that close to the edge?

One issue that frustrated voters in 1995 is when the Republicans finally gave in the federal workers got paid for all their time off, and then paid overtime to send out the backlog of checks and other stuff actually costing the government MORE to close.

It looks better to have a shutdown save taxpayers money, not cost them money. Just something I learned.

Thankfully no. I was raised by smart parents and listen to Dave Ramsey (sp) so I’ve got four months of expenses saved in the event I ever found myself unemployed. I just worry about the junior enlisted guys who do live paycheck to paycheck. If it’s a neccessary evil to shut the government down to save us financially than so be it, I just hope it doesn’t come to that.

Game plan: “we don’t have the money.” Repeat until we do.

Well good for you!! (Ramsey’s the bomb dot com.) It’s foolish these days not to have some set aside. As for the military...it is my understanding that this will not affect them. They still get paid, as do gran’pa and gran’ma.
I have a niece whose hubby is in the ‘Stan right now and they aren’t worried about a shutdown. (and yes, they do know about it.)

I want the repubs to stand firm on this and if the government shuts down, so be it. I am unhappy about the tax refund hold ups though. Our refund is big this year (usually small, our accountant must be losing it!). It’s scheduled to be mailed on Friday; I’m hoping it goes out before the shutdown!

SHUT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN.... just don’t pay the ‘whoreds’ of government employees that have been sitting on their ass (for however long it takes) like it’s some sort of paid vacation.
