Electioneering at my polling loation

Posted on 04/05/2011 2:58:33 PM PDT by LukeL

As I was voting at my polling location in the village of Saukville, Wisconsin I saw group of people had set up a booth seeking to recall my state senator Glen Grothman.

Other than the fact that our senate district is always the most or second most conservative district in the state, I think this is a clear violation of electioneering laws.

LukeL,
Usually the law is a loy has o set up so many feet from the polling place.
Be it 200 feet they can set up at 201 feet and lean over the line.

I checked our law and you cannot be on any public property, or within 100 feet of a polling place (if it is a private building). Now one could argue a recall effort for a official not on the ballot does not constitute electioneering, but it is a clear partisan act.

Because they are getting signatures for recall, they are not campaigning for anyone on today’s ballots. They are therefore allowed within 10’ of the polling place as long as they are not disruptive. At least that’s what the cop on the radio said in response to the many calls they have been getting about this very circumstance.

"will conservatives turn out for Prosser?"

This one did. The left is very motivated right now. This will be a very telling election. I bet a dollar that Kloppenburg will win. I would love to lose that bet.

The state election board ruled since Grothman is not up for election this activity is allowed. Must stay 10 feet away from an entrance and not to make contact with voters on their way into voting, just on their way out. At least that is my understanding.

So what if this hack Kuckoobird wins. Just convene again when the fleabaggers are there and pass the law again.

Even if they re-pass the law, the WI Supreme Court with a liberal majority will overturn it someway, somehow. They don’t care about the law; they care about power.

This is war and this is for keeps.

The GOP will also lose some of its nerve in DC if Prosser is defeated.

How will we know if they lose some of their nerve? ;-)

In an existential battle with evil fussing about rules is not the path to life.

Belling was talkign about this today. It is legal, they cannot be within ten feet of entry/exit to the polling place to not block people from going in to vote. ALso they are only supposed to ask people to sign on the way out, after voting, not before.

They won’t get enough sigs to recall Grothman anyway. Not in his district.
