It's not just the House of Representatives.
In another sign that neither side in the spending cut fight is confident that a government shutdown can be avoided, the White House has ordered federal agencies to prep for a government shutdown.
Ed O'Keefe at the Washington Post obtained the memo from a federal official, and confirmed its authenticity with the Office of Management and Budget.
"[G]iven the realities of the calendar, good management requires that we continue contingency planning for an orderly shutdown should the negotiations not be completed by" April 8, the memo reads. More guidance should be forthcoming today. The development occurs just as House leadership is distributing guidance members of Congress about shutdown protocol.
Congressional leaders will meet with President Obama at the White House Tuesday in a last-ditch effort break the logjam and reach a spending deal before the end of the week. If an agreement isn't reached, both sides are at the ready to blame the other for the shutdown.
"You have until 2013 to get out of our White House!"
With 0bama, we have to know and remember this: He will get away with as much as he’s allowed.
We’d be sick to death if we knew all he’s doing behind the scenes.
How are the suckling pigs on the government teat going to be effected?
Agreed.
If it’s NON-essential, then why does the Gov. need it?
Shut down permanently.

I love the smell of hype coupled with smoke and mirrors....
The Republicans had better use this:
THE WHITE HOUSE IS PLANNING TO SHUT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN.
Thanks for that. Some of us tried...
“Marshal law” huh?
Perhaps you mean Martial law?
We will be getting no back pay this time.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
SHUT IT DOWN.... ALL BUT THE MILITARY.
Of course, it is just a paid holiday in the long run. Govt. employees just miss a check for the pay period if then and then get a bigger check when the pay resumes.
I was thinking this morning, while driving to work at 0530, that business endures in spite of government and not because of it. I suppose some people think their government jobs are vital but I think it would suck having a useless job that produces nothing nor assists in producing anything.
It is the same all over the country. What we pay for to live better isn’t what we get... most of the money goes to make the lives of people who pay nothing better... what is left goes to pay the people who are to provide services to us...stand around and complain they have no funds for projects.

I’m no Boehnerbot. But, despite a lot of piss ants here on FR who’ve been crying about the man’s approach to fixing the budget, I think he’s moused the demrats. They have no credible place to go to try and pin this on Tea Party conservatives—at least for the 53% of the electorate that does not normally vote demrat.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the “gov’t shutdown” actually happens. Surprisingly and unexpectedly, for too many people, the sun will shine the next day and the earth will keep turning.
“...What we see is bad roads...”
Indeed. I live in Pennsylvania, and I swear the last time the roads around here were paved must have been before I was born. If they get too bad, a team of workers show up and throw shovelfuls of pebbles and crap into the holes.
Makes me wonder what hole our taxes are falling into...
