ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast – A senior diplomat says forces backing Ivory Coast's democratically elected leader have seized the presidential home where the entrenched strongman is in a bunker.

The diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said Tuesday that fighters had taken the residence.

Forces aiming to topple strongman Laurent Gbagbo had succeeded in taking nearly the entire countryside in just three days last week.

A spokesman for Ivory Coast's entrenched leader Laurent Gbagbo says his home has been hit at least 50 times by a United Nations Mi-24 helicopter.

Using a Hind gunship is a pretty persuasive way of serving an eviction notice.

When I see a million Christians being forced from their homes amid a Muslim onslaught in what was once the most prosperous nation in Africa...it makes me sick.

The Muslim the UN and the French are intent on putting in power is a genocidal thug who is murdering Catholics and other Christian Africans literally by the thousands, and will most probably turn the country into a Islamic dictatorship.

The (disputed) president, Gbagbo, is no lily of virtue --- he cdould hardly be, given the history --- but he's not a thug and he does represent the besieged Christians of the southern part of the country.

And Obama is supporting the Muslim thug.

Just like he's supporting the Libyan factions who, it turns out (surprise!) are also allies of Al Queda.

Is it impeachment time yet?

Is it?

And if now, what'll it take?

Gbagbo is a thug and so is Ouattara.

I have lived through this kind of nonsense and I know what lies behind it. It is all too common in Africa.

Is Gbagbo the only christian in Ivory Coast? Why did he keep on postponing elections? All this christian muslim stuff is besides the point. We have a saying in Africa “50% christian, 50% muslim but 100% juju”.

I amazed at how gullible Americans are.

I understand what you’re saying, and believe me, I’m no fan of Gbagbo. But is there any real reason to prefer Ouattara? I figure that one point in sleazy Gbagbo’s favor is that he won’t install shari’a law. But perhaps you have another perspective? What do you think?

And who told you that Outarra will install Sharia law?

The last serious wide scale attempt to impose Sharia on a non-muslim population ended in a bloody civil war (2.5 million dead) and a new country (South Sudan). That nonsense was attempted in Northern Nigeria, and it got them nowhere.

Muslims are a significant proportion of the population of West Africa, this is a fact. To deny them representation will be to deny the essence of democracy and that is what Gbagbo tried to do.

I refuse to fall for cheap propaganda simply because Gbagbo claims to be a christian.

I have very few sources of information about the present Ivory Coast situation. Perhaps you would recommend some links>

Thank you.
