Belongings of Former President to be Auctioned Off

Former President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to pay a visit to Luzerne County next week.

The 86-year-old native of Plains, Georgia and his wife Rosalyn will be the guests of honor at an auction in Plains Township, Pennsylvania.

The Cook and Cook Auction House in Plains Township is filled with all sorts of rare and unique items donated by former President Jimmy Carter and his family.

He will be coming here because one of the auction's owners became friends with Carter several years ago while vacationing in Georgia.

"The excitement is definitely building we been working on this over a year and we are honored to have been asked to do this and to do it for former president and Mrs. Carter and to Plains, Georgia," said Larry Cook of Cook and Cook Auctions.

Almost all the items, ranging from a dress worn by Rosalyn to a trike ridden by Carter are signed by the former president and first lady.

"It's a super boost for the area, come in for a nominal donation, to sit with a president in the same room, what a thrill, people love meeting an actor actress. Jimmy is a wonderful person, its great for the area just to know these things can happen," said Mark Parmelee of Cook and Cook Auctions.

Seating is limited, but you don't have to be here in person to participate, the entire auction will be streamed online so you can see the item, hear the description, and even place a bid.

I wouldn’t give you 5 cents for any piece of Carter memorabilia.

Will Carter auction off his brain?

He couldn’t get two bits for it if he did.

Maybe he could donate it to science.

If he did, maybe it would wind up in a Frankenstein monster by mistake just like in the original movie./sarc

...a trike ridden by Carter...

Before or after his term in office, I wonder.

Also, are they handing out barf bags at the door?

The attendence will likely rival Cindy Sheehan’s book signing.

They have to hold it in Pennsylvania, it wouldn’t
draw a plug nickle here in Georgia.

Jimmy’s memorabilia:

1) Private letter from the Ayatollah Khomeini: Thanks for your help in unseating the Shah. I’m sorry about that embassy thing. Boys will be boys.

2) Private letter from Sadat: We really fooled ‘em this time, didn’t we? And a Peace Prize to boot. Life is good.

3) Private letter from Amy Carter: Dad, my greatest concern as a 12-year-old is nuclear proliferation. And whether I’m going to get a Strawberry Shortcake doll for Christmas. You can tell everyone I said so.

4) Private letter from Billy Carter: Jimmy, I don’t see why I have to give all that consultation money back to Libya. After all, you’ve taken lots of money from the Saudis. The only difference is the press isn’t talking about that. It just ain’t fair, is all.

5) Private letter from Habitat for Humanity: Dear Mr. President: Thanks for showing up for the photo-op. After you left, we noticed we were missing a hammer. You didn’t accidentally take it with you, did you?
