In my working life I did spend a lot of time in big city ERs. Your description of the customers being likened to rabid animals is right on. I have never understood how the RNs and Docs keep from burning out after about one week in those conditions.
Heck, in Newark (NJ) they train Army medics at one of the hospitals due to the number of gunshot wounds. The animals do serve a purpose.
