NBC San Diego ^ | 4/4/2011

Posted on 04/04/2011 11:54:40 AM PDT by KentuckianaHeadhunter

An armed security guard, hired by Apple to protect one of its San Diego stores, confronted and killed a smash and grab suspect in a gun battle early Monday.

One person is dead and two people have been taken into custody following the shooting at Otay Ranch Towne Center in the Eastlake section of Chula Vista according to police.

The Apple store manager was working inside when just before 7 a.m. the guard confronted two men and a woman. The suspects had smashed into the store's front doors, sending shattered glass out onto the sidewalk.

The guard told police a gun battle started when one suspect produced a handgun. More than a dozen yellow evidence markers were on the ground just outside the store's front door.

You don’t give the lowly flashlight much credit, do you? A flashlight could break the skin and cause a nasty infection. You never know.

The guy produced a handgun right there on the spot?

Well, he had one thing over Apple — THEY don’t produce ANYTHING in this country...

Why can guns be “hired” but the average citizen cannot defend themselves with one while walking the streets?

The iGun? No, I doubt it. Any guard worth his/her salt would have used the latest - the iShotgun (Fast forward, 4:40).

Because a minimally trained minimum wage rent a cop considered more qualified than a physician or business owner?

****
In Texas, many of the mall rent-a-cops are off-duty police moonlighting in uniform. Supplemental income.
