Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has won a 2012 GOP presidential straw poll in the key early primary state of South Carolina.

Them Huckabees hev got the weight, though. Jess look at #34. And es I recall, one of his sons murdered his dog, too. Maybe not a coon hound, though.

A pro-life candidate with a ministerial background will play well in South Carolina to the point of overlooking the lack of other conservative principals. If the Huckster does decide to run, and with the SC primary being early in the season, he could emerge as a front runner.
As for Bachmann and Palin's chances in SC, Nicky Haley's shaky start in the governor's office may sour the SC electorate on these two real conservatives. I know it is early in Haley's term, but so far, IMHO, she has not shown she is up to the task.
I heard the other half voted to go get Lindsey and drag him back feet first from Washington DC. It was a tough choice.

It’s early. Not surprised to see a preacher do well in York County. Little to learn from this, but it may give Huckabee false confidence.

Some small straw polls have significance. Like when there’s an event with 4 or 5 candidates giving presentations, the poll at the end is a pretty good indication that the winner made the best presentation.
Often, though these polls have a single speaker, or one of the party locals is a fairly close operative of one of the campaigns - then that’s the way the vote goes - and yes - it’s meaningless.

I can’t believe people are stupid enough to vote for faux conservatives like the Huckster and Plastic Mitt. Oh well, “stupid is as stupid does”!

He used an expense account to buy personal items for his family and his boat. He claimed to have a theology degree which he didn’t have. He supported Democrats over Republican candidates in Ark. He has a record of releasing dangerous rapists and murderers. He supports illegals and the “Dream” Act, and likes the concept of anchor babies.
He falsely claimed that he did not sign legislation that imposed a 3 percent income tax surcharge while he was governor of Arkansas. He pleaded with lawmakers to raise taxes so that no Arkansan is left without vital services.
From the CATO Institute: “On its annual governor’s report card, Cato gave Huckabee an ‘F’ for fiscal policy during his final term, and an overall two-term grade of ‘D.’ Only four governors had worse scores, and 15 Democratic governors got higher grades, including well-known liberals like Ted Kulongoski of Oregon, Rod Blagojevich of Illinois, and Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania.”

The article says “....of the 152 votes cast...” and then later at the end of the article it says “...of the 149 covention attendees...”
Of course the biggest point here is that 23 percent of 152 votes does not mean they have the pulse of South Carolina.
Hold on there. We have DeMint don't we? We can't help it that we've been invaded by liberal yankees, look at Charleston and Columbia, full of liberals now. SC is still a state with less liberal laws than anyplace up north.
