Organizers file recall petitions against (Sen. Dan) Kapanke (LaCrosse, WI)

La Crosse-area activists submitted signatures today to the Government Accountability Board for the recall of Sen. Dan Kapanke, R-La Crosse, the first of eight ongoing recall efforts against eligible GOP senators to be turned in.

The volunteers submitted some 21,700 signatures, well over the 15,588 minimum, with 33 days left before the official deadline. State Dem Party officials called the submission "the most expeditious triggering of a recall in Wisconsin state history."

"When we realized how well we were doing, we were feeling pretty confident and we needed to move forward and move on to our next chapter, which is getting a candidate ready to go defeat Senator Kapanke,” recall volunteer Richelle Zimmerman said of not waiting the full 60 days to collect signatures.

If the signatures are verified, it would be only the fifth recall of a legislator in state history.

Kapanke's voicemail was full this afternoon, and the Committee to Elect a Republican Senate did not respond to a request for comment.

I guarantee you those signatures were the best they could do and they will fail in their recall.

So, if the election doesn’t go the way you wanted; you can just RECALL everyone who was elected that you didn’t like - even when they’re doing what those who elected them wanted?

It is sad to lose a Conservative vote, but no conservative can really support Kapanke on the basis of values.

Then don't. Support him on the basis of (your) money and (your) freedom.

I predict many of the Democrat signatures will be thrown out for duplicity and because many of the signatures were from inelligible voters/falsified signatures.

I think you are correct. I predict that nearly all racall efforts to recall GOP senators will fall short. The recalls of the dem senators will be be more successful.

Nope, in politics only winning matters. The recall must be defeated and Kapanke must be re-elected.

If we acquiesce here, it’s over for our country.

Do conservatives really want to win?

Recall laws simply move us from a republic to a democracy.

Of course, democracies quickly devolve into dictatorships.

Excellent. The conservative case for 100% perfection.

This is why we lose.

No Lucas, the petition is just the first step in the recall process, not the last. When you graduate from high-school and start voting you'll understand this a little better.

My understanding is that the signatures are collected statewide, but the voters in his district are all that matters. Is that correct?

Dan is a squish, but right now, he is our squish.

At a fundraiser last summer,. he briefly stated that while he would join “the Michelle Bachmann caucus”, he would be part of a coalition of “the new freshman class”. At one point, he flirted with voting against Walker or voting for a 2-year limited version of the bill. He heard from his constituents and grew a temporary spine.

He is a terrible speaker. One wonders how he managed to sell seed, except, farmers needed the seed, so likely, they bought in spite of Kapanke.

However, we need him to keep the caucus. I doubt he wins, this time around. The entire district along the Mississippi is blue.

It will also be a miracle if Prosser wins.

Well, doing a fairly long search, I can find nothing regarding any efforts to recall Democrats.

Only Republicans.

I have to agree with you on this one. This is no time to worry about whether he “cheated on his wife.” I actually find myself somewhat suspicious of a posting that smears a sure Republican vote at a time when every vote is crucial.

Where the hell are the GOP “organizers?” Why aren't they recalling the fleebaggers? Where is the brain of the GOP? The normal guy tax payer revolt is faltering under the expert terrorist tactics of the Left. THIS is how Russia was lost to the Soviets. This is how Cuba was lost to the thug Castro. THIS is how Venezuela was lost to the Left. Its these shitty 1930s and 1960s antique leftists messing up the world with their cracked pot ideology and billions of individuals suffer as serfs. We need to finally get off our butts and show them the door. Revolution? Civil War? Secession? You Pick... BUT DO SOMETHING

Actually, it looks like there are 6 serious recall efforts - 3 Dem and 3 Republican. The Dems can move faster because of the union organizations. Democrat Jim Halperin seems to be the most vulnerable.

How about all the conservative members of the legislative body just telling the people of the state “Hey, we’re tired of working our ass off to save you from yourselves. We are resigning and you can replace us with those who feel the way you do. We’ll be waiting in wings for you to come crawling to us once you’ve seen firsthand just now destructive it is to run a government the way you all think we should. Sure, it sounds good, and might even look good on paper. But it simply doesn’t work. Just look around you. You’ve had us busting our butts to fix the problems you all have brought on the state and even now you don’t get it. Well, tell you what, you go ahead and have full control and let’s see how well that works out for you.”

And then just sit back and wait until they have no choice but to listen to those who know why it’s not working!

I believe that is the case but, I don’t believe the signatures were collected statewide. The may have but it doesn’t make sense.

If the only vote that counts are those within a district then only signatures from his district that are verified and valid will count.
