One in five mothers in America have children with different fathers, a new study shows.

Researchers found that the trend was higher in minority groups and mothers with low income and education backgrounds.

The data was taken over a 27-year period from nearly 4,000 U.S. women who had been interviewed more than 20 times.

The study's author Cassandra Dorius said of the one in five figure: 'To put it in perspective, this is similar to the number of American adults with a college degree.

It's pervasive.'

My husband and I have 5 children (3 here with us, 2 in heaven).

Trust me, the next guy I marry isn’t getting any babies from me!

;-)

You did notice that the study was done in the USA by a post-doctoral fellow at University of Michigan? The Brit papers carry more news about what’s going on in the US than our own MSM.

I would think typically the more educated, upper middle class American women marry and/or bear children later, so by the time they divorce, if they do, or become widowed, and then remarry, they are not so inclined toward having another family. I don’t find any of these findings surprising at all.

Ronald Reagan had two children with each of his two wives.

I won’t bring up the rumor about Princess Di having 2 children with different fathers.

Or post incriminating photos.

Illegitimacy rates are much higher than 20%, well past 60% among minorities, so it's surprising that only 20% of women have children with different fathers.

This tells me that a lot of welfare fraud is going on, claiming baby daddy is out of the home and out of the picture, yet somehow they are still making babies together.

This is not in any way a defense of women who fall into such behavior, but I just want to point out that the focus of this study is on women having children from different fathers. What does this situation say about men? Aren’t they as promiscuous as the mothers? Are men exonerated for fathering many children with as many women as they possibly can? It takes two to tango, you know?

Unquestionably, that’s true. We can’t let the men off the hook as they are complicit in this problem. Too many men are not responsible for their behavior, and it’s not a good trend for our society. Our modern culture even glorifies some of that behavior. Very bad.

So times haven’t changed. Though the writing is subtle, the predominant theme underpinning this situation is that it is still women’s fault for bad sexual behavior and the decline of the nuclear family. Not the men mind you, but the women.

As far as this study goes, maybe not.

It could be that in each circumstance all of the men servicing the promiscuous mother are faithful to her, unaware of other suitors.

Well, it's possible. We men are frequently clueless. Tell me you know this!

That’s true but I think a fair amount of the situation comes from blended families of divorced parents, where everyone involved is fairly informed about what’s going on.

in the 60s, there was a term for this. 20% of females with kids. whoa.

just imagine the stats on the single females (i’ve heard admissions that would make the cdc run screaming for handi-wipes AND antibacterial soap)

and people wonder why i’m still single.

i won’t compromise my principles. why should i? to enter into a jerry springer world of non-stop drama and disease? thanks, but no thanks

My wife and I had five children, every one born to a different father, but they all called me Dad. Come to think of it, there were four different mothers involved too. One of them was the natural child of my wife and me. The rest were foster and adopted children. We loved every one of them as our own but it is a shame there are so many people out there that can’t parent their own children.

A study from a year or two ago showed that 40% of abortions were by otherwise Christian wives who got pregnant via an affair.

The sheer number of paternity testing sites on Google show that lots of husbands have doubts.

this only says that women have different fathers for different children.

It doesn’t say if the child was conceived in or out of wedlock, nor does it say they weren’t in a long term relationship with the father at the time.

Since many women have an early marriage/baby and later marry and have a stable marriage, this statistic sounds realistic.
