The idiotic name Wildlife Reservre, etc...is a complete deceptive joke.You're right, I've seen pictures of it, there's NOTHING there, frozen tundra with your occassional moose, but your right, the dims have a way of fooling their constituents because it's "for the children!"

I work in the Alaskan Arctic. There is a variety wildlife (many caribou in the summertime, only a handful stay through the winter. No moose.), but numerous safeguards in place for working there.
You're absolutely correct about the perception that has been created by politicians/activist groups. It is easy to do, because it is a place that few people ever see first-hand. ANWR is a case in point, the lease they want to develop (1002) is in the NW corner of ANWR.
To put into perspective, the entire north slope portion of Alaska is approx 90,000 square miles, and only 315 sq mi of that is 'occupied' by oil exploration (e.g. roads/pads, pipeline corridors, facilities/buildings, etc).
