Bush warns of fallout from early Afghanistan exit (RINO attacks U.S. "isolationism")
CNN - Political Ticker ^ | 2011-04-01

(CNN) – Former President George W. Bush is worried the U.S. might pull out of Afghanistan too early to the detriment of that country's women.

In an interview with Fox News that aired Thursday, Bush warned that Afghan women will "suffer" should the Obama administration decide to downscale troop levels there.

"My concern of course is that the United States gets weary of being in Afghanistan and says 'It's not worth it, let's leave' and Laura and I believe that if that were to happen, women would suffer again," he told Fox's Greta Van Susteren. "And we don't believe that's in the interest of the United States or the world to create a safe haven for terrorists and stand by and watch women's rights be abused."

"We liberated Afghanistan from the Taliban because of providing a save haven for al Qaeda," he continued. "But I believe then and believe now we have an obligation to help this young Democracy to survive and thrive."

Bush's comments came the same day he and former first lady Laura Bush kicked off a two-day conference at Southern Methodist University focusing on women's rights issues in Afghanistan – an issue Mrs. Bush also championed when she was in the White House.

"Isolationism will end up subjecting certain people to horrors that I don't see how our country can live with that kind of decision," the former president also said.

The Obama administration has said that it will gradually hand off responsibilities to Afghanistan security forces as it draws down U.S. troops between this summer and the end of 2014.

“The Federal government—including the armed services—is solely responsible to the States and to the People, not to foreign interests and causes, no matter how noble they may be.”

I guess you missed that whole AQ being housed, trained, financed and supported in Afghanistan.

Whereas there may be debate on Iraq, Afghanistan and the Taliban fiddled with the wrong terror outfit and the wrong country.

Since when is “cutting and running” a legitimate fight, a conservative trait?

...er sorry for Paulbots, American is to blame...forgot.

In addition to protecting the country after 911, GWB appointed Alito and Roberts to the Court — two conservative jurists who will no doubt have a say in Obamacare.

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but his first choice for Alito's seat was Harriett Miers, and we know what a failure that was.

Dubya's a good man, but the culture as it exists now in Afghanistan will not change for decades, if not centuries. If the reason why we're there is to protect the women, then let's relocate them to a more civilized country. It will be a lot faster and cheaper than anything going on now.

"But I believe then and believe now we have an obligation to help this young Democracy to survive and thrive."

GWB, I donated, worked and voted for you, but the way this bullshit ROE is for our guys, we might as well have blue helmets and rubber bullets.

You can't be in a "war" for ten years, and have building schools and outhouses as your priorities.

Kill the sonsofcamels, burn all poppy fields, execute all prisoners and nuke Pakistan and Iran.

After that put in a call to libya, syria, egypt, saudia arabia the rest of the middle east, and africa and tell them the rules of the road.

No boots on the ground, no ground, hot glass, shape up or we will get our oil from Alaska.

GWB was a disappointment, but I have a lot of respect for him. He is a good, decent man, and did not deserve the ripping that he received from the left and media on a daily basis. I have never seen a POTUS so maligned as he.

Democracy Shamocracy.....

We have given enough blood and treasure trying to lift that dump out of the 7th century feudal tribal life. Maybe it’s time to realize that they mostly WANT to live that way.

I could care less about that POS country, but Taliban and AQ scum are viable targets for our wrath.

One thing is for sure, if I want to debate Leftist pacifism, I can go to the WashPost comment section or meet up with brainless Paulian pacifists here on FR.

Guaranteed.

I forget, is the government controlled by the Taliban anymore?

So when you said he removed the Taliban, you meant he removed them from power. I thought you meant he removed the Taliban from Afghanistan which is hardly them case.

Will the Taliban lovers such as yourself be happy when the US pulls our and allows the Taliban to return to power? Stop your criticism of our military and save it for the Taliban.

Flying planes into our buildings? Very high priority.

Relations between the sexes in barbarian sh*tholes? I couldn’t care less.

“He is right on this one”

Just WTF do you think he’s right about? How do you think the armed forces of the US should go about rearranging what Pashtun men and women do with each other?

I don't recall American Revolutionaries, blowing themselves up in French compounds, Beheading French hostages and acting as frenzied uncivilized brutes, if they would have, the French would have bugged out ....And right they would be.
Jeffersonian democracy is incompatible with Islam. Democracy must be yearned for, it must be a burning in the soul, it's not a gift, to be offered to those who have no respect for modern civilization, human decency, and the dignity of mankind.

These guys, all of em, are Huns. Actual, living Huns. They LIVE to fight. Its what they do. Its ALL they do. They have no respect for anything, not for their families or for each other or for themselves.
They claw at one another as a way of life. They play polo with dead calves and force their five-year-old sons into human cockfights to defend the family honor.
Huns, roaming packs of savage, heartless beasts who feed on each other's barbarism. (Expletive) cavemen with AK 47's.

They are sneaky and ruthless and, when confronted, cowardly. They are hateful, malevolent parasites who create nothing and destroy everything else. They've spent their entire lives reading only one book (and not a very good one, as books go) and consider hygiene and indoor plumbing to be products of the devil.
They're still figuring out how to work a Bic lighter.
Talking to these people about improving their quality of life is like trying to teach an ape how to hold a pen; eventually he just gets frustrated and sticks you in the eye with it.
OK,? enough.

What? Where did I criticize our military? I was responding to your post which seemed to indicate that Bush had not removed the Taliban from power. He did. In repsonse to 9-11...meaning good for Bush.

If I am a Taliban lover, you must hate freedom. Why do you hate freedom? LOL. :)

That is just it, we are always tell others how to live, what light bulbs to buy, what to drive, what kind of toilet to use whether you can smoke or not. I want to be left alone and will not tell you what how you should live. Be not a slave or a master.

You said Bush removed the Taliban. I disagreed (you did not say from power, which completely changes the context).

You then falsely accused me of attacking Bush, which was a completely false allegation. It seems you think you must attack those who disagree with you and put words in their mouths.

I responded in kind.
