Rethinking Sarah Palin For President
Irish Examiner USA ^ | 3/29/2011 | By Alicia Colon

Although I have written several columns expressing my admiration for Sarah Palin, I admit I have never taken her seriously as a 2012 presidential candidate. I've always felt that her greatest asset was as a kingmaker and behind the scenes advisor. In addition I've assumed that she wasn't that interested in pursuing the job but rather enjoyed making waves in the liberal media. The more I read the continuing attacks on Palin and her family I've started wondering why the Democrats and their media lapdogs fear her so much. Even some conservative pundits have determined that she is unelectable because of her high negatives. Those negatives are actually bogus and based on lies and misinformation and there is really only one word to describe Sarah Palin - indomitable.

Bill Maher played to the lowest common denominator and insinuated that Palin was a "dumb tw**t" and his moronic audience cheered. Ari Fleischer, a former press secretary in the George W. Bush administration, said recently that he couldn't see "any way, shape or form that [Palin] can win" the White House. Naturally there was a Public Policy poll that determined that Democratic and Independent voters would vote for Charlie Sheen over Sarah Palin. The fact that there was even such a poll should indicate the vigorous campaign to minimize her credibility as a serious candidate. Who's paying for these skewered polls anyway?

The anti-Palin campaign stretches to foreign media where Canadian TV columnist John Doyle writes in the Globe and Mail that television forever killed Palin's chances to be president. He writes: "television duly destroyed the Palin authenticity. The arc of her national political career began with a defining speech at the Republican National Convention in September, 2008,

The irony is amazing. One poster says having a woman lead is the tantamount to welcoming Muslim domination, and another poster says his religion tells him women shouldn't do this or that...

Who, again, sounds like they have more in common with radical islam?

Well gee, we all know that Reagan was not perfect. What I question is the strategy that some use that diminishes one person to justify the elevation of a person who has far fewer credentials and less of a track record.

Eight years as Governor of the most populated and largest economy in the US as opposed to person who served 32 months as Governor of one of the least populated states?

How is using this strategy a winning strategy? I would even go as far as to say Sarah Palin would not use this as a winning marketing strategy. One thing she is? good at marketing.

Even the democrats never resorted to dissing FDR for Obama. He is their “fetish”. Instead they created a whole new persona for him. The messianic uniter who is oh so eloquent.

That hindsight is a wonderful thing. I doubt many here would vote for Reagan in today's time, based on his record- especially amnesty.

Of course, I've never bought into comparing Reagan to Palin, or Reagan to anyone. To do so diminishes his legacy, and boxes Sarah or whoever into a ridiculous comparison.

The reality is this: Reagan would not have become President for two terms if people believed in his baggage, or if they only saw the 'unconservative' things he did, if they knew he'd grant amnesty, etc.

Did his record indicate he'd grant amnesty?

Yet, so many say he became more and more conservative with time and experience. Regardless of what you believe, Reagan as President was a joke for at least two years into his Presidency until he earned his stripes. A divorced actor with a dysfunctional family who used folksy humor all the time? He was hammered before, during, and after his Presidency for these things.

He was not perfect.

Nor is Palin.

Nor is anyone else who may or may not run for President.

America took a chance with a man who had similar baggage and comparable conservative views as Palin. Yet, you would rather dismiss what's possible with Palin than accept reality that she *could* be a great President, much like Reagan *became*, all in spite of the obstacles in from of him.

I'd rather roll the dice with Palin than any other person that might run.

must have been pretty hard since no other AK gov has done it. And since none of the other POTUS candidates have done it.

Anyone that wants to downgrade the accomplishment of leaving their state with a $12 billion surplus, cutting spending by 9.5% during boom times and cutting 86% of federal earmarks can only do so by ignoring reality....but go ahead.

Gov Palin is the only POTUS candidate that put Reaganomics into practice and she has the results to prove it works. Anyone that is a fan of Reagan should be embracing Gov Palin as a candidate since she is the only Reaganite on the stage atm.

anyone that thinks we should lock up 50% of our population and keep them unseen and unheard is part of the problem....I have noticed that weak men want weak women and strong women scare them.

None of you can see it. Palin is popular here. She is popular elsewhere to some people. But....too many people are not on board. I know you fail to see that.

But...it is true. Palin has a lot of work to do. You all aren’t helping by dragging down the only person conservatives have as their hero.

Try as you might. You use Reagan to lift her up and you denigrate Reagan to lift her up. It is repulsive.

She is a good lady, but nowhere near Reagan.

Remember that poster from a few weeks back who tried to scold me for stating that FR was infested with misogynists. I wonder where he is today.

You're the one who isn't playing reality, sweetheart. Either you're just dense, stupid or both. You clearly have no comprehension skills as to what I said.

Oh, and I use Reagan to lift up any decent conservative, period. You're the one who's making him out to be above criticism, not me honey. He was flawed, yet great none the less.

I'd bet anything, ANYTHING, if Reagan were running today, you'd kick him to the curb with the very same arguments you use against Palin.

But you stick to your popularity contests and perfect conservatism. I'll stay in reality, thanks.

Yep. It’s so funny how these ‘cycles’ happen, isn’t? Couldn’t possibly be someone behind the scenes sending ‘woe is _____’ emails trying to rally the haters, could it?

I see. So you'd vote for a pro-choice, anti-gun, homosexual marriage promoter before you'd vote for a woman, let alone Sarah Palin? What a pillar of religious morality you are!

I guess you didn't quite understand my post. I said if I voted just on the fact of most likely to be elected, then I would vote for Romney. The post was made in reference to what candidates I have so far listed as worthy of watching was called unelectable, and perhaps they are. But they are still my choices so far, and I am still looking. The Bible verse I posted directly above in my previous post, said it was WRONG to do that, to promote evil hoping good would come from it. Romney is evil in my opinion. So NO, I would not vote for Romney. Yes he is all those things you listed and more, and I would not vote for him if it came down to him vs Obama (I would use a write in instead). Again because the Bible verse I quoted.

And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

Damnation is a pretty serious thing in my book.

Get a new gig. You are starting to become hilarious.

Desperation does that to a person.

You see, we all know Reagan wasn’t perfect. wink, wink. Remember his accomplishments were great considering he had a dem Congress to boot. But some of you work overtime pointing that out. And on the same day his son was out disrespecting his father.

That is very sad.

And so, you believe Sarah Palin is evil for the tweet she made?

Do you believe she's evil because she calls a homosexual a friend?

The only one talking like the taliban is you. I do have a quick question for you. Should our women folk be covered when they leave the house or not?

Oh one more question what is it about strong women that scares you?

You've got miles on me in that respect, hon. Desperation does that to a person.

Yeah, kinda like getting your panties in a twist when anyone dares make a comparison to Reagan! GASP!

You see, we all know Reagan wasn’t perfect. wink, wink.

Wow. You've seen the light!

Remember his accomplishments were great considering he had a dem Congress to boot. But some of you work overtime pointing that out. And on the same day his son was out disrespecting his father.

Ah so! No one can make any comparison to Reagan, yet you'd compare objective, reality-based freepers to a liberal panty waist who just happens to have the last name Reagan? Wow, I think you're on the verge of tears! STOMP STOMP!

That is very sad.

Yes, you are. You have more in common with Ron Reagan Jr. than any objective, reality-based freeper does: you both live in a land of make believe.
