It began being built within a month of the end of the NATO Bombing campaign. I believe it was in June or July 1999. But at the time there were those in the military who said that Bondsteel was on the drawing board for years.
One of my friends who researched it said, “Kosovo war cost at least $40 billion and Camp Bondsteel apparently cost $350 million to build and runs at a cost of $148 million a year.”
That doesn’t count the cost of our political support for Kosovo independence, nor the financial aid we send to Kosovo every year as a result of our intervention to get this built.
Cutting every dime to Kososvo should be a given in the next budget.
Any Republican who attempts to keep this going is fueling his own primary oponents, and the tea parties will make that happen.
