A European's Warning to America
Wall Street Journal ^ | MARCH 11, 2011 | DANIEL HANNAN

Posted on 03/29/2011 9:42:20 PM PDT by iowamark

...Obama would verbalize his ideology using the same vocabulary that Eurocrats do.

He is not pursuing a set of random initiatives but a program of comprehensive Europeanization: European health care, European welfare, European carbon taxes, European day care, European college education, even a European foreign policy, based on engagement with supranational technocracies, nuclear disarmament and a reluctance to deploy forces overseas...

Is a European future truly so terrible?

Yes...

For the past 40 years, Europeans have fallen further and further behind Americans in their standard of living. Europe also has become accustomed to a high level of structural unemployment. Only now, as the U.S. applies a European-style economic strategy based on fiscal stimulus, nationalization, bailouts, quantitative easing and the regulation of private-sector remuneration, has the rate of unemployment in the U.S. leaped to European levels.

Why is a European politician urging America to avoid Europeanization? As a Briton, I see the American republic as a repository of our traditional freedoms. The doctrines rooted in the common law, in the Magna Carta, and in the Bill of Rights found their fullest and most sublime expression in the old courthouse of Philadelphia. Britain, as a result of its unhappy membership in the European Union, has now surrendered a large part of its birthright...

How aptly the British people might today apply the ringing phrases of the Declaration of Independence against their own rulers, who have "combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws."

So you can imagine how I feel when I see the U.S. making the same mistakes that Britain has made: expanding its government, regulating private commerce, centralizing its jurisdiction, breaking the link between taxation and representation, abandoning its sovereignty.

You deserve better, cousins. And we expect better.

Liberty, Fraternity, Equality.

When you think of the French slogan, there are glaring contradictions. No, we don't need this slogan in the US.

Time to resurrect the ghosts of William Wallace and George Washington.

What angers me is WHY would an American WANT to be like the “Europeans”? 10-15% permanent unemployment, an EU “court” that hands down edicts that citizens HAVE to obey, little or no opportunity to advance your station in life, and if you do, they tax the daylights out of you. In addition, Americans saved their sorry asses TWICE, because they have this irrational love of socialism. They have no real defense (other than England) because WE provide it for them. After WWII, the Marshall Plan sunk a trillion dollars to rebuild war torn countries. And what do we get for all we’ve done for Europe? Nothing but scorn and hatred by the left wing elitists who run these ingrate countries.

Count back 40-years.... In 1947 the Marshall Plan began 20+ years of transfers of money to war torn European countries; once the monies run out, they instituted VATs as a temporary measure beginning in 68-71 in every country. As the Marshall payments drew down, the VATs went up and became permanent.

Conclusion: Without the Marshall Plan, the European countries could have never implement their Social Welfare State. The USA paid the bills in grants/loans that allowed the instutitionalization of socialized Europe.

Today, Europe is pulling back from the 100% funded social welfare state - another conclusion is that they will never be able to sustain it without Crony Deals with Dictators who seize the wealth from poorer countries leaving them poorer and enriching the Eurolites.

Without the Marshall Plan, the European countries could have never implement their Social Welfare State.

The USA also provided the bulk of nuclear defense umbrella during the Cold War, allowing European nations to devote little resources to their own defense and continue to build their socialist welfare states. Globalists are preparing the end of American dominance by bringing the US economy to it's knees (which is succeeding). We continue to fund military campaigns in the Middle East and start new ones with money we don't have. Get ready - the UN and international forces will become the guardians of all. Stick a fork in us, we are almost done.

Also, you’re not allowed to defend yourself against attack. If someone breaks into your house, you gotta let them steal you stuff, or you get arrested and charged by the police. Insanity.

Oh, I forgot about that one. In fact you have to “burglar proof” your house as in “toddler proof”, so that the thug can break in easier and not hurt himself. Don’t forget also that it is “illegal” for Christians to adopt a child in England, because it is “child abuse”.

Watch House Hunters International once or twice to see what passes for "prime digs" in most Euro cities. My gawd. NO THANKS!

The way I see it is, our military and our money kept all the boogeymen (read: Soviets) away from them all these years, so they could play at social engineering. They can sniff at us all they want and pretend they’re so above “war” but the fact is, WE are what allowed them to create their crappy socialist “utopias”.
